What We Once Were - OMARI AU

Confession

Kel took a deep breath and gripped the flowers in my hand. His face was red and he was fidgeting with his zipper.

"Kel." Hero said. He put his hand on kels shoulder.

"hi." kel responded, muttering. he took a deep breath again, maybe a bit too deep, his head started to feel lightheaded.

"you can do this. remember what i said? it just matters if you tell him you like him." Hero patted kels shoulder, rustling his hair. "you got this." he flashed his signature charming smile.

kel nodded and knocked on basils door.

it was summer in faraway, kel had just finished his basketball practice. basils house was one where it was always full of green and happy, warm memories. there were piles of dirt bags in the driveway, and plants were always everywhere. kel used to want to plant with basil, but he had a thing for accidentally killing plants..

it was six years since.. well.. since sunny..

kel shook his head. if anything, he should be happy basil was still in faraway.

"hello..?" kel heard a shy voice open the door.

basil was there, his blue eyes scrunched up in worry, and his blonde hair was tied behind his head with a flower on his left ear. his freckles coated his face, and his ears were pierced with small green earrings.

he was wearing a green hoodie with the vines on the sleeves, along with baggy pale jeans.

"h-hi.." kel felt his heart beat rise, it's been a while since him and basil talked. both had been busy with school, and ever since sunny..

"oh.. hey kel.." basil smiled a bit and leaned against the door, looking up at kel. he glanced behind kel to see hero, standing there and waving. "and hero. what are you guys here for?"

kel gulped and handed him flowers. "i didn't kill these ones." he blurted.

basil laughed and took the flowers in his hands, examining each leaf and flower. "you passed the test." he smiled

oh god.. that smile was enough to tear kels heart open and loose all sense of reality..

"hey basil.. so uh.. i wanted to.. like.. ask.. if.. you wanted to uh.." kel stuttered and looked behind him to glance a pleading help to hero.

hero sighed and whispered, "solo dilo hermano.."

just say it brother.

"I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me!" kel blurted. his face red and blushing.

basil looked a bit surprised and looked the other way. "i mean.. i.. yeah. yeah i'm fine with that.." his soft voice trembled. "w-where do you want to go..?"

kel paused. shit! he hasn't thought that far yet! "Mari's house? we can sit in the treehouse and we can talk.. you know?"

kel could see surprise and shock come to basils eyes. "yeah.. that.. yeah." basil smiled sadly.

hero smiled as well, happy for the two.

"see you tomorrow at eight..?" kel asked, kicking a rock and mumbling. basil nodded. "yup. see you there."
