Saturday, the sun was beaming. Basil heard snoring from the left of him, he turned to the side to see avery, her hair freshly died pink.
oh yeah, they had dyed their hair last night.
basil looked at his own hair. it was green towards the ends, matching most of the outfits he had.
both of them were on the floor of basils room, his laptop still running youtube videos. the sun leaked through the window, and basils room was splashed with posters and plants.
aubrey shifted in her sleep, grumbling something about pizza. basil scrunched his nose. aubrey liked peporoni pizza, and basil was strictly vegetarian.
it's funny how the two are best friends. with their personalities, it seemed more like an "opposites attract" type of deal, but it was more like aubrey was tough but had a soft spot, and basil was gentle but had a stern side as well.
basil reached for his phone and glanced at the time, squinting.
the time was 9:41.
"aubrey!" basil squeaked.
aubrey muttered in her sleep, pulling the blanket over her. "what."
"i'm late to hang out with kel!" basil shook aubrey, shoving the phone in her face.
"okay. not my problem.." aubrey put a pillow over her head.
"aubrey, cmon!" basil got out of bed and rushed to get dressed, doing his hair and stressing over what clothes to wear.
"basil... it's too early for this... what if he meant ten at night?"
"why would he wanna meet at ten at night?!" basil muttered as he put a v-neck sweater over his button up collar, ivy vines patterned his outwear, small imprinted flowers on his pants.
"you dress like a gay history teacher." aubrey said.
basil rolled his eyes and ignored the comment.
"if you're coming you need to get dressed." basil pointed at her tank top and bunny printed pajama pants. "i am not going on a date with the third wheel wearing that."
"you just have bad fashion." aubrey smirked and ruffled basils head, causing basil to curse that he just fixed his hair, but promptly ignored it.
basil spent the next fifteen minutes pushing aubrey out of the door, while nervously glancing at the grandfather clock in the living room.
finally, the two left the door, basil ushering aubrey, scolding her.
"if you wanted to come with us, you should at least not be late!" he muttered, fixing his v-neck sweater, tugging against the collar nervously.
"why did you wear that? it's dead in the summer." Aubrey chuckled. she wore a black tank-top and jean shorts that had patches of pink to match with her hair.
he huffed and adjusted his hair, "Aubs, tell me how i look." he turned around to face the pink haired girl.
"You look gay." Aubrey muttered, walking past the stop sign, looking both ways.
"Hey, look a cat!" Basil smiled and ran to the black cat on the sidewalk near the vending machine.
The cat had an eye missing, it was black and small, it looked like a little kitty. Its eyes were a curious shade of green and had long whiskers.
"Aw... hey little fella..." Basil smiled and picked up the cat. The cat meowed and purred against the blonde.
Aubrey looked at the cat, muttering something about how it looked wimpy.
"Aubrey! Look!" Basil held the cat out towards Aubrey, causing the cat to meow in protest.
"Basil, that cat is missing an eye. She clearly-" Aubrey checked the cat. "HE clearly has issues." despite her words Aubrey stroked her hands through his head, causing him to purr.
Basil set him down and gave him one last head scratch, heading towards the lake. "Crap.. we got sidetracked by this goober." Basil smiled at the cat and grabbed Aubreys hand. "Cmon! Kel is waiting for us!"
Aubrey took one last look at the cat and showed a faint smile.
The cat reminded her of someone,
she couldn't think of who, though.
