BLOOD is splattered on the carpet and wall in the living room, Ellie breezes past it outside to the back deck.
She swears to herself when she notices Rosalie out there, elbows propped up on the railing. It's too late for her to turn back, and she knows Rosalie is already well aware of her presence.
So she inches forward, leaning against the railing as well. Rosalie peers at her through the side of her eye, a frown pulling at her glossed lips. "I'm sorry." The words feel foreign on her tongue as she speaks them.
Ellie glances at her, surprise befalling her moonlit features. Rosalie begins to speak before Ellie can respond. "What if I've done is selfish. So unbelievably selfish." Guilt tugs at the blondes stone of a heart, making her break eye contact with Ellie.
Ellie isn't really sure what to say, so she says; "Thank you." And she means it, having seen the glint of guilt shine in Rosalie's onyx eyes.
Silence soon sweeps back over the patio, but it isn't awkward nor heavy. Though moments later, Alice flitters onto the porch, multiple different emotions playing on her face.
"Renesmee is here." She announces, her voice is just as conflicted as her expression is, for she's amazed by her nieces existence, yet filled with worry as the venom Edward flooded Bellas veins with works through her system, not knowing if it'll be enough to mend the wounds she suffered.
Ellie nods stiffly. "Is Bella...?" She trails off, not able to finish the sentence.
"Edward bit her just before her heart stopped," Alice informs.
"Will she make it?" Ellie asks.
Alice shrugs slightly, the action one of defeat. "I don't know."
Ellie nods again, this time not speaking as Alice's words settle in.
Bella may not wake up.
She knew this was a possibility, had prepared for it, though those preparations do little for the ache that eats away at her chest.
"Would you like to meet her?" Alice asks softly, her gaze trained on Ellie.
"Actually, can I spend some time alone? I-"
"Of course," Alice interjects, not needing to hear the reasoning from Ellie. "Come on, Rose." She beckons, to which the blonde steps forward, sending a sympathetic look towards Ellie.
Ellie gives them a small, thankful smile as they disappear into the house. And then she drops it with a sigh, a sheen of tears forming in her eyes.
She turns around to face the forest beyond the Cullens home, pointing her eyes up at the moon that hangs in the sky, for once not shrouded by the clouds.
Her finger taps on the railing, a breeze bristling past her, whipping her hair in front of her face. She wants nothing more than to call Demetri and have him listen to her problems, to assure her everything will be fine.
But she can't, because Aro would eventually peer into his mind and hear the conversation, and Ellies certain her niece would be turned into a science experiment. Bella, too, maybe, if she awakes the transition.
