Buck wandered into the kitchen area a few minutes later, having taken a minute to get a drink and some ibuprofen, while also adjusting to the land of the awake. Hen, Chim, Eddie, and Bobby were sat around the table playing cards and they hushed slightly when they noticed Buck.
Eddie was the first person to speak up, saying, "There you are, you ready to head out.?"
"Uh, yeah," said Buck, still less than thrilled to be sent home. Eddie set his cards down and got up from the table, leaving the rest of the crew.
"Feel better, Buckaroo," Hen called.
Chim added, "Don't come back until you're healthy!" which caused Hen to give him the stink eye.
"Go get some rest, kiddo," was all Bobby said with a sweet smile.
"Thanks, guys," Buck said with his classic uncomfortably loved smile.
Eddie clapped Buck on the back gently, so as not to disturb the sick man, and started heading back towards the stairs. "We'll see you guys later!" Eddie called to them when he started his descent.
The pair grabbed their bags from the locker room and left for Eddie's car. No one had spoken yet and Buck was desperate for a cure to the awkward silence but didn't particularly want it to be him. Thankfully, Eddie stepped up.
"So, how're you feeling with some sleep?" he questioned.
"Still pretty crappy," Buck croaked out.
Eddie chuckled sympathetically in response before responding, "Can I get you to eat something when we get home? You haven't eaten since lunch."
Buck groaned, contemplating the idea of food. "I don't know..."
"Something light, at least, like toast or crackers?"
"Okay, fine," Buck relented.
They were in the car by then and Buck was leaning back against his seat, trying to keep his eyes from fluttering closed. The pair had drifted into silence again but this time it was Buck to break the silence.
"Why are you doing this?" he asked. Eddie gave him a confused look, so Buck elaborated. "And I know what you said earlier, but why are you doing this," he gestured around him, "and staying with me?"
"Because you're my friend, Buck, and friends take care of each other."
"I can take care of myself," he rebuked.
Eddie gave him a telling look. "No you can't," he said. "Besides, you were there for me after the mud collapse and the sniper, so now I'm here for you."
"I didn't just nearly die."
"You don't have to nearly die to be allowed to be cared for. Can't you just accept help when it's offered?"
"Uh, I don't think I know how to do that."
"Then I'll show you," Eddie chuckled. "You rest and I'll take us home."
"Fine," Buck sighed and closed his eyes before having to open them to prevent nausea from the bumpy ride building up. He zoned out and watched the lights of the cars in front of them until the next thing he knew they were pulling up to Eddie's place.
"We're here," he said. Buck blinked blearily then looked at the door in confusion.
"I thought you were going to my place," he said sleepily.
"I know, but I don't have a giant bay window that wakes me up at ungodly hours of the morning."
"Fair enough," Buck agreed.
