Follow Me Down

Chapter Two

I had a strange dream last night, I was running in the woods away from something or someone. I just know something was chasing me, but I never saw anyone. I woke up in a sweat, like I had actually been running in my sleep. I had to take a shower and freshen up, so I wouldn't smell bad when Rayna came over. Her wedding is in about 2 months and they finally settled on a barn venue. Today we were going dress shopping, she always waits last minute to get stuff done.

After getting dressed, I head down into the kitchen to make myself a coffee. I feel like I hardly slept, even though I went to bed earlier than usual last night. Half way through my coffee,I hear a car horn and know that's Rayna here to pick me up. I say goodbye to Luka and head out.

"You're not gonna believe what happened to me last night" Rayna says as soon as I get in the car. I immediately think back to what I saw last night. "What happened?" I try not to overthink what she's going to say, I'm sure it's something about Logan. "Well, I went outside to take the trash out and I noticed this fox wondering around. It was adorable, I even got a picture". She holds her phone up to me and I look at a blurry picture of a fox. Obviously this can't be the same fox that I had seen last night. "I saw a fox last night too." "No way!" She slaps my arm and puts her phone back on the holder and starts to drive out of my driveway. "Yeah, that's weird that we both saw a fox". I say to her. The picture was too dark and blurry for me to really make out what it looked like, but the eyes sent a chill down my back. " Did you get a bad feeling when you saw it?" maybe she also felt weird. "No, he was just looking for food. You know I love foxes." She starts going on about how foxes are her favorite animal. I must be going crazy, to be afraid of a fox.

After an hour drive, we finally reached the shop. "I hope I can find my dress today" Rayna says, as we step out. As we enter we're greeted by a women named Lily, and she offers us some wine. Rayna and I both agree. She hands us our wine and asks Rayna what style dress she is looking for. My mind thinks back to the fox, and how odd it is, that we both saw one the same night.

"What do you think ?" Rayna shows me a pretty silk dress that looks fitted. "I like it" She give me a face and continues looking. After a few minutes of following her around with Lily, she has collected enough dresses to try on. I take a seat, while she goes with Lily into the changing room. After about five dresses, she finally comes out in one that matches her style completely.

The dress is a princess style, it's beautiful on her. "I think this is the one" she says to me "I think so too. you look stunning" She smiles and faces back to the mirror before going back to take it off. I'm glad she was able to find her dress today. I don't think I could keep doing this.

Getting back into her car, we decide to go get some lunch at this cute little cafe. We talked about her new dress and how happy she is about it. Looking out the window I notice a fox in an alley, I try not to show that I'm shocked by what I'm seeing. I ignore the uneasy feeling in my stomach and turn back to listen to what Rayna is talking about. " You okay?" She looks at me with a concerned look " You look really pale". "Oh, I do?" I was hoping she wouldn't notice that I was shaken up. "I'm fine, I think I'm just tired" I try and play it off and decide to take another glance toward the alley, but there's no fox. "Okay, well I'll drop you off after we're done eating." I nod my head and eat my food, while she continues on talking.

Rayna beeps her horn to say goodbye to me, as I wave at her. Closing my door I make sure to lock it. it's now 5pm and I'm beat from being in the car almost all day. I'm taking off my shoes when of a sudden I hear a knock on the door. I huff and head over to open it. Rayna must want something. Opening the door I'm greeted by no one. I step out and look around, not seeing anyone. I hear my cell phone go off, and I head in to grab it. The caller ID is UNKOWN, which is odd. I don't think I've ever seen that before. "Hello" I say into my phone. curious as to who it is.

"Athena Skye?" A deep man's voice says. "This is her" I say in my costumer service voice. Maybe it's someone that's handling my parents case. "I'm coming for you". The line goes dead, and I'm left wondering who the hell is fucking with me. I put my phone back on the table and try not to panic. No one is coming for me, I'm just being messed with. Maybe Rayna had Logan pull a prank on me? It didn't sound anything like him, but maybe he was using one of those voice changer apps. I pick my phone back up and text Rayna is she's pranking me. As I'm waiting for her to reply, I make sure everything is locked. I look back at my phone and received a text from a number I don't recognize. 'Locking your doors won't save you' I read the text and I begin to panic, because how would they know I just locked everything? I call Rayna and it rings about 3 times before she picks up. " Rayna I need you to come back" I tell her. She asks me what's wrong and I explain how there is a random number that called me and then texted me. She tells me that she'll come back, that she is almost home and is gonna pack a bag. I feel better that she'll be here with me tonight. She insists that we stay on the phone, but I tell her it's okay and I'll call back if anything happens.

I decide while I wait I'd make some tea to help me calm down. Luka is curled up on the couch, when I enter the living room. "Hey, buddy." I pet him, while I hold my cup in my other hand. I turn on some TV and I finally begin to relax. 

After about 30 minutes of watching TV, I hear creaking from outside. I tense up, and walk towards the front window. I don't think Rayna would be here yet, she just texted that she left and she's about 20 minutes away from me. I inhale and move the blind to look out, again I see this black fox with glowing eyes. " what the fuck" I whisper to myself. I stare back at this fox and he stares back at me, just standing there. He eventually runs off and I see movement from the corner of my eye. There I see the dark figure again, but this time I can see it's a man. I can see his eyes, they were glowing red. Quickly I close the blind and grab my phone to see how far away Rayna is.
