As the two returned from dinner, Mila collapsed onto the hotel bed. Charles followed her, lying on his side to face her as she closed her eyes peacefully.
"Do you ever think we moved too fast?" Mila asked, eyes still closed.
"You mean with our whole relationship?"
"Yeah, like should we have waited slightly longer before moving in together or getting engaged? Kelly and Max have been together for ages and still haven't."
"I think we moved at the right pace for us. Unless you think we moved too quick?"
"No, I don't. I was just wondering what you thought about it."
"I love you Mila. That's all that matters to me. And plus, Kelly has a kid. That adds to complications when you're in a relationship."
"You think having a kid is a complication?" Mila asked, frowning slightly, furrowing her eyebrows.
"No, not necessarily. I just think if you have a kid, especially with another person, it means that you need to think more about a different person, not just yourself."
"That is true, I hadn't thought about that very much. Not with us at least. I was worried about Carlos and Isa in that sense."
"Mila, you know the two of them better than almost anyone. You have the best judgement of anyone I know. Trust your gut." Charles said, moving hair out of Mila's face, leaning in and kissing her softly.
"I never trusted my gut more than when I said yes to marrying you Charles. I love you."
"I love you too Mila. You're perfect."
The pair fell asleep still wearing their clothes. Neither cared, perfectly content together.
