As the days went on, it seemed less likely that the whole school was in on the prank on Percy and Melissa. Every time either Percy or her would slip in a Mrs. Dodds reference: they would be looked at as if they were psychos.

It got to the point where they started to believe their peers, that Mrs. Dodds really never existed, and Mrs. Kerr has been their pre-algebra teacher since Christmas. After much confusion, the two ultimately came up with two possibilities for what had occurred.

One, they crazy. delusional. mad. absolutely deranged physcopaths that should be locked in a rubber room.

Or two, they had accidentally used their superpowers to wipe the minds of the witnesses at the meeting, so their identities were not revealed.

They were leaning more towards the first one.

Missy couldn't imagine how hard this would all be if she didn't have Percy by her side. Even if she was losing her mind, at least she had her best friend with her.

The only person who didn't make the whole thing believable was Grover. Missy claimed she could sense the boy was lying with her super lie detector powers, but really he was just a terrible liar.

Percy kept her updated about all the nightmares he had about the museum. In the last one, Mel had accidentally hit him with a large rock that was meant to be sent to the monster. He said birds appeared over his head like a cartoon. He thankfully bolted away, cartoon-style, before the monster got to him.

She also noticed Percy had been crankier and more irritable than normal. She, being the good friend she is, tried to throw in some encouraging comments each day, like 'turn that frown upside down!' or 'sunshine is just a cloud away.' But ultimately, his positive attitude never lasted too long; it was purely just the stupidity and unoriginality of the quotes that made him laugh.

Percy's grades also slipped; Missy tried her best to maintain her own and help her friend, but it seemed to have the same effect on her too and Percy wasn't a very good listener. The two also started to get into more fights with Nancy and her friends. The final straw was when Mr. Nichol asked Percy for what seemed like the millionth time why he was too lazy to study for the test, and he snapped. Percy called him an old sot. Missy didn't know what the word meant, but it felt quite satisfying to say, so it skyrocketed to her number-one new funny word for the day.

After learning that Percy had been expelled from Yancy Academy for using the word, it quickly dipped off the charts. Missy couldn't lie and say her feelings weren't hurt after Percy constantly expressed how much he simply did not care that he wasn't returning for next year. Missy tried not to take it personal because she knew he didn't mean it like that, but she feared his expulsion might mean the end of their friendship—that they might not see each other again. Only then did she follow in Percy's footsteps of acting like a cranky old man.

As the two were sitting in the library studying for their finals and the tension was high, even though Percy showed he was happy to leave Yancy, he dreaded one part—leaving his best friend behind.

Missy never really had a lot of friends growing up; no kids ever wanted to play with the girl that either talked to little or incredibly too much, and no middle schoolers wanted to either—well, except for Percy. Percy was the closest she had ever gotten to a person, and she didn't want to lose him. He didn't either.

"Hey Mel?"

She hummed in acknowledgment, slapping her mechanical pencil against her face repeatedly.

"Where do you live?" Percy asked.

Melissa blinked.

"Wait, not like that!" Percy shook his head, "You know what i mean."

She laughed, "Then I live in Pittsburgh, well, sometimes."

"Sometimes?"

"Mostly just during when schools in session," she explained, "that's normally the case, this is my first time being a boarding school-ee, I know you already know that. Kinda miss public school a little."

"And in summer?"

"When school closes I escape to manhattan for a bit to visit my cousin lily and her daughter. She's awesome, I think you'd really like her."

Percy grinned, "you live in manhattan?"
