HE HELD YOUR HAND?????" Courtney screamed as I told her what she missed. Basically, everything. Courtney leaned in closer, a mischievous grin on her lips. "You know, Rox?" she said, her voice tinged with playful sarcasm, "You're still not over Charles, Are you?" "Oh, please!" I scoffed. "That ship has sailed a long time ago, Court. I'm over him."

Courtney has been my best friend since high school, she helped me through a lot, I don't think I would even be here without her. Courtney raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical.

"Sure, you are" she teased, "Because totally normal people spend all their time worrying about their ex's well-being, right?" "How was I not supposed to worry?"

"I still care about him a little. Maybe just a little" I admitted. Courtney grinned, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Uh-huh, sure," she replied, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Keep telling yourself that, Rox. Maybe one day you'll actually believe it."

"Court, I feel like there's more to the story, something is wrong" Courtney's eyes widened with surprise at my words "What do you mean?"? She asked. "Charles told me that something was off with his brakes, I wonder what. I need to investigate further more" "Wow" Courtney murmured; her voice soft.

"You know I've got your back, right? Whatever you need, I'm always here for you"

I nodded, "Thanks, Court"

I hadn't realised it was quarter to nine already. I said goodbye to Courtney and practically ran for a Taxi.

Just when I was about to visit Charles, I saw his best friend Carlos leaving. As I approached him, I noted the unease in his demeanour. His usually confident stance was replaced with a visible tension "Carlos" I greeted him with a concerned tone. "Is everything okay?" Carlos offered a faint smile. "Roxanne," his voice tinged with hesitation.

"There's something I need to discuss with you" My heart skipped a beat thinking if something happened to Charles. As Carlos was also an F1 driver I bet he knew something more than me. "Of course," I responded. "What's on your mind?"

Taking a deep breath, Carlos began "I've been doing some digging into Charles' accident," he confessed, his gaze steady. "And I've uncovered something serious"

I could feel the tension rise through my body. My pulse quickened by Carlos' words. "What have you found?" I inquired.

"Roxanne, I feel like Charles' accident wasn't just a mere mishap." Carlos stated, his tone grave. "There are signs that suggest foul play." My eyes widened in shock. "Foul play?" my voice echoed through the entire floor.

My mind raced with questions. How can someone do this, to threaten everything he had worked so hard for? The mere thought made my blood boil with frustration and anger.

"But who would want to harm Charles?" I asked, as I fought to speak through the tightness in my throat.

Carlos shook his head, his expression troubled "I'm not entirely sure," he admitted, his tone tinged with frustration. "But I'm determined to find out. Charles deserves to know the truth."

" We need to get to the bottom of this," I declared, "No matter what it takes."

"Let's plan this at lunch tomorrow?" Carlos asked. "Of course, just text me the details" I said.

I quietly entered Charles' hospital room as he was sleeping. I carefully sat on the edge of his bed. As I settled, my gaze softened looking at him. His breathing steep and steady, his hair was tousled. A small smile tugged my lips as I observed him I reached out, my fingers trailing lightly along his arm, the warmth of his skin sending a comforting ripple through.

"You done staring at me, Roxanne?" he smirked. "I- I wasn't staring at you! You just looked so peaceful." I stuttered. "Don't worry Roxanne, If I were you, even I wouldn't be able to resist my beauty." he replied.

"Charles, I forgot how cheeky you can be." I couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and familiarity settle over me as I waited for his response. A lazy grin spread across his lips as he opened his eyes to meet mine. "Well, you know me," he replied with a playful wink "Can't help it if I'm irresistible."

I chuckled softly at his comment "Oh, is that so?" I teased. "Well, lucky for you I happen to be immune to your charms." Charles pretended to be hurt, his hand flying to his chest in mock surprise "Ouch," he exclaimed, his tone exaggerated. "That hurts, Roxanne. Right here."

Our laughter filled the room. A sense of nostalgia washed over me. His smile could light up even the darkest days. It was like sunshine breaking through storm clouds, filling me with warmth and happiness.

My phone buzzed in with an incoming call. I glanced at the screen and saw an unknown number flashing.
