As I stepped out of Charles' room to take the call, my mind wandered about Charles lying there on the hospital bed by an accident that happened which was not even his fault. With a deep breath, I answered the call.

"Hello, this is Roxanne Carter"

I said, with my voice steady by pulling the thoughts about Charles aside.

A low, menacing voice greeted me from the other end.

"Roxanne," he whispered, sending shivers down my spine. "You've been getting too close to Charles."

My grip on the phone tightened as fear coursed through me.

"Who is this?" I demanded, my voice trembling.

"You'll find out soon enough," the voice replied.

"But for now, stay away from Charles if you value your life."

My mind raced with questions, but before I could respond, the line went dead. I stared at my phone in anger, trying to make sense of the chilling call.

"If you value your life?? The fuck." I said to myself.

"Roxanne? What was that about?" I heard Charles walking to the door

Oh my god, I just realised he isn't supposed to fucking walk.

"LECLERC YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO WALK." I screamed at him.

"Why the hell did you even come out of the bed. What if you fall? You might hit something."

I said with my mind full of fear and dread.

"OUCH! Rox I think i hit something."

Charles said with sarcasm as I ran to him.

As i did, he held my back with strong grip. "Scared aren't we Carter?"

As Charles held onto my back with a firm grip, a rush of heat spread through me. His teasing tone sent a shiver down my spine, starting a fire that burned hotter with each passing moment.

"Scared?" my voice barely above a whisper as I leaned closer to him, our bodies inches apart. "Maybe a little," I admitted, my breath slowing at the intensity in his gaze.

"Besides, how many times will you repeat that line?"

His eyes locked with mine, I could feel the tension. We could cut it with a knife.

"As many times I want" he slowly whispered into my ear.

"You know, Roxanne," he murmured, his voice low and husky,

"There's something about danger that makes everything feel... more alive."

I swallowed hard, my pulse racing with fire. Despite the gravity of the situation, there was an undeniable magnetism pulling us together. I was so lost in his greenish ocean blue eyes. I feel like I might drown and die.

"Charles," I breathed, the sound barely a whisper as I reached out to trace the contours of his jawline, feeling the stubble beneath my fingertips.

"What are you doing to me?"

A slow, seductive smile spread across his lips, sending a surge of desire through me.

"Just trying to remind you what it feels like to be truly alive," he whispered, his voice with a hint of mischief.

In that moment, the world outside melted away, leaving only us in that hospital room. Me. With him. As Charles and I were in our intense moment, the sudden sound of the door opening pulled us back to reality.

My heart skipped a beat as I turned to see Lando Norris, Charles' best friend and fellow race car driver, stepping into the room with a grin on his face.

"Hey, mate!" Lando exclaimed, his voice filled with excitement. "I thought I'd drop by and see how you're doing."

Charles' face lit up at the sight of his friend, forgetting the tension that had filled the room just moments before. "Lando, I missed you man!" he replied, a genuine smile spreading across his face.

I couldn't help but feel a wave of relief wash over me at Lando's arrival as I knew something would definitely would have happened if he didn't come.

"Hey, Lando," I greeted him with a smile, grateful for his presence. "Thanks for coming."

Lando's eyes twinkled with mischief as he glanced between Charles and me, a knowing smirk playing on his lips.

"Looks like I interrupted something,"
he teased, his eyebrows raising suggestively.

Charles chuckled, shooting Lando a playful glare.

"Don't mind him, Roxanne," he said, his tone light even though he could feel the tension like i did.

"He's just jealous he's not getting all the attention."

"I'm perfectly fine seeing that YOU are getting all the attention, mate!" he laughed.

I rolled my eyes at their banter, I feel like they do this everyday. Make snarky comments about each other, laugh about it.

As Lando spoke about the race that's going to happen in a few weeks, my mind wandered back to the phone call again.
I just can't seem to let it go. I'll have to dig deeper.
