To Love Is To Have Lost

Songfic time! This is my first ever songfic so bear with me. Please feel free to comment, but do keep it as constructive criticism. This one will be based on my personal interpretation of Sleep Token's Blood Sport. It is a RK900 (Colin) x Gavin story.

It is uncertain when the relationship between Colin and Gavin first developed past simply being work partners. The fact that Colin put up with Gavin as long as he has was groundbreaking in and of itself with the latter's ill temper and evident disdain for Androids. However, they made a good team. Since being partnered they have closed ninety percent of cases given to them.

Eventually cruel comments lost their venom and glares softened. Although Gavin retained his distance, Colin has often been seen with an expression of longing when looking at his partner.

Then, on one case the two were sent to assist Hank and Conner with an investigation into a serial killer who was using Android blood to make red ice. Gavin walked in on their suspect in the process of draining his next victim in the basement of a closed down clothing store. The result was Gavin being injured by a bullet from the suspect's gun before he fled and Colin being faced with the choice of helping Gavin or chasing the murderer. Colin chose his partner.

After several weeks of recovery Gavin has been cleared for desk duty also sidelining Colin until further notice. It is on one of these evenings when they leave the DPD that Colin suggests getting a drink at Gavin's favourite watering hole. Sitting in the back of the bar Gavin is nursing his second drink anxiety twisting his stomach. Colin can easily read Gavin with a simple scan and asks, "What is bothering you, Reed?"

Gavin looks down at his hands uncertain as he poses his own question, "You knew my injury wasn't life threatening, so why did you choose not to chase the suspect?"

"I rolled the numbers," Colin explains, "Getting you to safety was more important to me. It...hurt to see you in pain." Gavin's eyes lift locking onto Colin's face searching for some sort of mockery yet doesn't find it. He's surprised by the warmth in Colin's typically icy eyes. Gavin is not able to recall the last time someone looked at him the way Colin is now. He was certain it had been years.

On impulse Gavin downs the rest of his whiskey before half standing half leaning on the table for support as he closes the distance between them crashing his lips onto Colin's. The Android hesitates mind palace racing before returning the awkward kiss. Then deepening it. Gavin is the first to break contact sitting back down face flushed crimson. He scratches at the scar across his nose nervously.

They both sit silently processing what just took place. Neither could deny the sparks they felt or how right it seemed. As if their stars aligned. That night, in their shared apartment, they spoke for the first time about attempting to have a more personal relationship. That night Gavin fell asleep propped up against his headboard with his head resting on Colin's shoulder.

In the months that followed the honeymoon phase dwindled quickly for the two. Colin had hoped that their relationship would temper how reckless Gavin was. Meanwhile, Gavin was reminded with each case they solved and each suspect they chased and/or arrested that Colin had no obvious weaknesses like he did. Their fighting saddened many of their friends. For what should have been a fairytale romance to them had actually become a blood sport.

Things came to a head during their latest investigation. Fowler had dropped their own serial killer case onto them. Someone was seeking out Human/Android couples. They would torture the Android half of each pair with watching their partner be mutilated and killed resulting in their stress levels forcing them to shut down. This theory was corroborated when the Human victims' times of death were hours earlier than the timestamp of the Androids' shutdown.
