"So, uhm. The reason we brought you out here, apart from our lovely bonding time, was to...how do I explain this..." Beckett trailed off. He and I were sitting on the couch, plagued by an awkward silence as he couldn't seem to find the words to explain the situation we were in and the reason as to why we were in the situation in the first place. I heard murmured conversation in the kitchen, but I couldn't decipher what they were saying. I couldn't take any more silence so I stood up, ready to resort to sleeping until someone took me home. I took two steps before Beckett's warm hand grasped mine and pulled me back. "Amber, wait. I... I just need the other guys here in order to tell you honestly." He said, without looking at my face, his eyes remained trained on the shaggy black carpet. I sighed and plopped back on the couch. I was hungover, in a bad mood and all I really wanted to do was sleep for a few years, but I also wanted answers. Beckett must have realized my tolerance was wearing thin because he called the other guys into the living room. Excluding Cortez, who left during my super fun fit of vomiting. I still wondered why he seemed so jealous of Beckett and Emmett caring for me, I mean, they were all best friends right? Why would he feel jealous? I doubted it was about me, because he had stated that my spewing episode was "stanky". Who even says that?
Beckett said my name, bringing me back to the present. I nodded at him, signaling that I was listening, and he looked at the other guys before begining his explanation.
"Okay. So, remember what we told you at the pizza place? About that "recruitment list" thing?" He asked me, and I nodded. Of course I remembered, it was less than 24 hours ago!
"It was a lie. There was no list."
Wait. What?
"Oh, so you lied to me. That was nice of you." I laughed humorlessly, wondering why they lied and, of course, what the real reason was. Beckett sighed sadly and nodded. "Yes, we lied to you, and I'm sorry for that, but you probably would have refused to come, had we told the honest truth." My eyes widened and I stood up, backing away from them slowly. "So you- you guys are gonna murder me! All the rumors were right! Oh god... Oh shit. But I-" Bobby cut me off my putting a hand over my mouth. Oh god, I'm gonna die....
"Amber! We're not gonna kill you so calm down!" Bobby rushed out, sitting me on the couch and taking his hand away from my mouth. I sighed and clasped my hands on my lap, repeating his words in my head, they won't kill me, even if there was plenty of evidence against his statement; they were the bad boys, rumored to hurt and kill people, they lied to get me to come out to their scary hideout in the middle of freaking nowhere, which I really shouldn't have agreed to considering I only really met them yesterday. "Amber." Damon said to get my attention. I looked up at him. "We're not going to hurt you. I can promise you that." I scoffed, rolling my eyes. "Yeah, that's what a killer would say before he slaughters the innocent young girl." Bobby laughed, Damon glared at Bobby for laughing, Beckett sighed and Emmett face palmed. I shrugged. "Its true."
Bobby breathed out a laugh and shook his head. "Anyway," Beckett began, putting us back on track, "I'm sorry for lying, but it has to be done. You wouldn't have come otherwise, but now I think you trust us a little more." I nodded in agreement. He nodded back and continued.
"So the real reason we brought you out here is because, aside from wanting to be friends with a really cute pink-haired dork, we need your help with... Something."
Oh, thanks, Beckett. That cleared it up. I understand everything now!
Note the sarcasm.
"Okay. Beckett, you absolutely suck at explaining things." Bobby said, to which we all snickered and nodded in agreement. Bobby looked at me. "So, you know all the rumors about us at school?" I nodded. "Yeah, there's a lot. Quite a few silly ones. You guys are in a gang, you're rich, you're drug dealers, you're murderers, rapists, you're mammas boys, you all have herpes, you're aliens..." We all chuckled at the last two. "I'm pretty sure some girl at school said you are all actually female, too. I think she might be right..." They all glared at me, but nonetheless had smiled on their faces. Suddenly, Beckett got all serious. "Okay, those are pretty funny, I'll admit, but... Some of them are true."
What.
