The next day, it started raining. As the drops began their gentle descent from the sky, I found myself seeking shelter under the bus stop, a sanctuary from the downpour.
"I really hate the rain," I muttered, feeling the dreariness seep into my bones.
"But I love the rain," Kai replied with a smile, his eyes shimmering with an infectious enthusiasm that I couldn't help but notice.
"Why?" I asked, genuinely curious about his perspective.
"If you look at the brighter side of things, everything is pretty," he said, his words carrying a sense of wonder.
"What's great in rain?" I inquired, unable to comprehend his sentiment.
"I'll show you," he promised, reaching out to take my hand.
In that moment, as our fingers intertwined, he pulled me into the rain. Together, we dashed through the streets, the droplets dancing around us like tiny stars falling from the heavens.
We arrived at his house, breathless and exhilarated, but when we paused outside, I found myself captivated by the scene before me.
"So. How is it?" Kai asked, his voice filled with anticipation.
I stood there in silence, allowing myself to truly experience the rain. Slowly, I lifted my gaze to the sky, feeling the cool water cascade down my face. And then, with a newfound clarity, I smiled and closed my eyes.
Taking a deep breath, I opened my eyes to find Kai watching me, his expression filled with warmth and understanding.
Cole was right. He changed me. He made me happy. He made me feel loved.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, I couldn't resist the impulse to embrace him. I drew him close, feeling the beat of his heart against mine, a melody of reassurance in the midst of uncertainty.
But as I held him, doubt crept into my mind like a shadow in the sunlight. No. I can't.
With a sudden surge of panic, I broke away from his embrace, my breath coming in ragged gasps as I struggled to compose myself.
"No... I-I can't..." I stammered, my voice trembling with emotion.
Before I could retreat any further, Kai reached out and caught my hand, pulling me back into his orbit. We stood there, mere inches apart, the tension between us palpable in the air.
"K-Kai..." I whispered, my voice barely audible above the drumming of the rain.
"Shh," he murmured, his finger coming to rest against my lips, silencing my protests.
In that moment, as our eyes met, my heart skipped a beat, and I found myself drowning in the depths of his gaze.
"You said that you'll fulfill any wish of mine, remember?" he reminded me, his words echoing in the hollows of my mind.
"For my wish, can I ask for you?"
My heart pounded in my chest, a thunderous rhythm that drowned out all other thoughts.
"Please. I want you," he confessed, his voice raw with emotion.
I hesitated, torn between the pull of desire and the weight of my insecurities. But then, with a resolve born of longing, I leaned in and kissed him, a gesture of surrender to the inevitability of our connection.
In that fleeting moment, as our lips met in a tender embrace, I felt a sense of belonging that I had never known before.
But as the kiss came to an end, reality crashed down upon me like a wave upon the shore. I pulled away from him, my heart heavy with regret.
