In the days that followed, a delicate dance of emotions began to weave between Kai and me.
Kai's efforts to "fall in love" with me were endearing, though I knew deep down they were futile. Love, after all, is not something that can be forced.
Then, amidst the ordinary routine of life, fate orchestrated a moment of reckoning. It was within the sterile walls of a hospital that our paths collided once again.
As I spotted Kai, my heart quickened its pace, and I found myself drawn towards him, a magnetic pull I couldn't resist.
"What are you doing here?" I inquired, my voice a mixture of curiosity and concern.
"Shouldn't I be the one asking that?" Kai replied, his gaze unwavering.
"I'm here to bring darkness to someone else's life. You?" I retorted, attempting to cloak my vulnerability with a hint of sarcasm.
"Monthly checkup," he stated simply.
In the midst of our conversation, chaos erupted, shattering the tranquility of the moment. A sinister presence loomed, casting a shadow over the hospital corridors.
And then, he appeared before me, a figure of malevolence wielding a knife with intent.
Fear should have gripped me, but in that moment, all I could see was Kai, standing steadfast before me, his arms enveloping me in a shield of protection.
With unwavering determination, I faced the threat head-on, channeling the depths of my power to vanquish the darkness that threatened to consume us.
As the danger dissipated, I found myself clutching the knife, my hand stained with blood.
The man and knife fell out of my hand but his touch remained with me.
My heartbeat raced and I could feel blood rush to my face. But I brought myself out of the fantastical state by pushing him away.
"Are you crazy? What do you think you were doing?" I exclaimed, my words laced with equal parts frustration and affection.
He remained silent as he held my hand tenderly, his touch a silent reassurance that we were in this together, bound by something deeper than mere words could express.
I continued my rant preventing myself from melting by his touch. "Yah, do you hear me? Kai, let me remind you. I can't die. But you can. I can't get hurt but you can."
He looked straight at me. "Then what is this? You also have blood coming out of you. You are also hurt." he said holding my bloody hand.
I was just left speechless by his concern.
Later, as we journeyed homeward in silence, I broke the quietude with a simple yet heartfelt expression of gratitude.
"Thank you," I murmured, the weight of my emotions hanging heavy in the air.
"It was nothing," Kai replied, his voice soft yet resolute. "You are protecting me from death. That's the least I can do to thank you."
And in that moment, as the world blurred past us in a rush of motion, I felt a warmth bloom within my chest.
Later at night, we both were sitting together, nestled beneath the blanket of stars, their twinkling lights echoing the shimmer in our eyes.
Ever since the incident in the morning, my heart had undergone a profound shift, like a melody finding its perfect harmony.
I realized how good of a person Kai is, his essence weaving into the very fabric of my being, illuminating the darkest corners of my soul.
He deserves to live, his existence a beacon of hope in a world marred by shadows.
