OVERTIMENEWS

After Y/N L/N decided to enter the transfer portal in May of 2021, the colleges of the NCAA have been scrambling to claim the young star as theirs. Today we now know what school L/N has chosen to attend. It is University of Connecticut! The head coach of the UCONN womens volleyball team has expressed her excitement and goals for the team as L/N plans to arrive on campus in two weeks. "Y/N led her team all through high school and continued to shine as a husker on Nebraska, I'm excited to get to work with her and to see how much farther she can go as an athlete and as a person." L/N also took to instagram today to annouce her new spot as a UCONN Husky. Thats all for overtime today.

"Wow" I sighed as I closed my laptop, that had been the 5th article of my transfer to UCONN. Of course I was nervous to be going to a new school in a new city but this fresh start was needed. Lucky for me my childhood best friend Azzi goes there so I won't be completely alone.

I continued to scroll on my instagram, occasionally liking and replying to comments of my supporters on my announcement post. I clicked through stories upon stories of people congratulating me, until I paused over a particularly eye opening notification. "Paige Bueckers mentioned you in their story." Of course the other basketball girls reposted my announcement so what's different about Paige doing the same? That's probably because I've maybe sorta had my eye on her. Not like in a serious way more like "oh she's kinda fine" way.

The story she posted of me wasn't even a big deal I mean it was just two praying emojis. But she knows who i am. My thoughts were interrupted when I got another notification, "Paige Bueckers has started following you." Way to make my heart skip a beat, I mean why do I even feel like this she didn't know me until today. Still, I took it upon myself to follow her back. I sighed looking at the time, it was getting pretty late and I had to catch a flight tomorrow to Storrs, my new home. I closed everything down for the night before I turned my lights off and collapsed into bed. These last few weeks have been a whirlwind of drama, interviews, goodbyes and lots of packing. One thing I've wondered these last weeks is will I miss being a husker? I mean of course I will, but will the team miss me? Probably not.

I ran my hands over my face in exacerbation, I kept trying to convince myself that whatever happened was not my fault but it didn't matter now. I turned over on my side, flashing back to Paige's story of me. Leave it to me to go and over analyse something so simple. Eventually I fell asleep. The next morning I woke up to my phone ringing, I flipped it over and it revealed an unusual contact. "Maybe: Azzi <3" The continued uncanny ringing filled my room until I hit answer.

"Hello?" What am I doing asking a question?

"Y/N? Is that you?" The familiar voice of my childhood friend replied on the other side.

"Azzi! Hi uh whats up." Why do I sound unhappy to hear her voice

"Not much but I heard that you're transferring here, thats amazing girl! You must be nervous"

"I- I kind of am. Its a change in scenery thats for sure." I sighed

"Well don't you worry Y/N, I'll be there to help. It'll be just like old times, I miss you y'know" Sounded like she actually does.

"Awh Azzi thank you I appreciate it but I gotta go now cuz I'm off to the airport but I'll text as soon as I land" I returned her energy.

"Awesome Y/N/N (your nickname), see you soon!"

"See you Az!" I used her nickname as well.

I let out a big breath I didn't even know I was holding in as I hung up. That was so nerve racking. You would think because I'm a professional athlete my nerves wouldn't be so irrational but I can rock a volleyball game with scouts watching and still get all nervous over a simple phone call with an old friend. I eventually got up and finished up all my last affairs which mostly consisted of arranging my bags and saying some more goodbyes. Then I was off to the airport.
