It's been two weeks since his new dad went on some mission and he's been trying to collect information about this world he was in ever since. It was not an easy thing to do considering he was still only a baby who could only babble and flail his weak limbs in the air. So Satoru, in all his chaotic fashion, decided he would learn to crawl.

He huffed a determined breath and swung his legs to the side in an attempt to turn his small body around. He was currently laying on a thick carpet in the living room with his toys (his favourite was the stuffed wolf) thrown around him. His mother was just a few steps away from him washing dishes in the kitchen.

With little drops of sweat on his forehead, he almost shouted with joy when his body cooperated with him and he successfully landed on his stomach. Moving on towards the next step, he tried lifting up his arms by putting pressure on his little hands which proved to be a little difficult at first but he was Gojo Satoru, he didn't know what giving up was. And so, by sheer determination he managed to be on all fours.

He was so focused on his mission that he didn't see his mom coming out of the kitchen and only became aware of it when a small gasp reached his ears. All he saw was a blur before he was picked up and swung in the air.

"Oh my God, Toru! You're crawling! My baby boy is so talented. Mommy is so proud of you."

The happiness was contagious. His mother's delighted laughter was like warm sunlight after a storm and he couldn't help but be swept along with his mother in the rush of emotions.
His face was littered with small kisses and giggles escaped his mouth which only made the moment even more wholesome.

He decided he loved his new mom.

Satoru was very excited.

His mother was taking him outside today because 'too much time inside the house is stiffling' according to his mom. This was his chance to finally understand about this world. Moreover, he could crawl now. So that was another advantage for him.

Once outside, he was immediately hit by the hustling streets of this village? Town? His father said village so village it is. The weird energy was still everywhere. He could feel it even more clearly now. Each thread of this weird energy was of different color. And aside from people, even the birds and trees, even the cat on the road possessed it.

Satoru was brought out of his musings when he realized his mom had stopped in the middle of the road to talk with someone. He turned in his mother's arms to have a clear look at who it was.

It was a man his father's age, probably only a few years younger. With long black silky hair and skin so pale he almost looked like he was made of clay. His eyes had slits like a snake and his face was all sharp angles. He was wearing the same green jacket and the same forehead band was wrapped around his head with a weird symbol on it.

So the forehead wrap with the weird symbol is some sort of identification. Hmmm.. interesting

"Hello Misa-san. Congratulations on your safe pregnancy." The man bowed towards his mother.

"Thank you Orochimaru-san. Look Satoru, this a comrade of your father's. Say hi."

Satoru deadpanned at him. He did not want to say hi to this man thank you very much. His skin looked slimy and his eyes glinted like a pedophile. He also examined Satoru closely like he was an object in some exhibition instead of a baby, paying extra attention to his eyes. So no, Satoru did not want to say anything to him.

In true Satoru fashion, he turned back around and buried his face in his mom's shoulder.

"Oh wow. He's normally very energetic and outgoing. I don't know what's wrong now." His mom smiled apologetically.

The man just shook his head and smirked.

"It's fine. He's probably scared because I'm someone new to him. No big deal."

Just go away you slimy man! Was the only thought in Satoru's head. But alas, his mother seemed fine on having a conversation with orochi-whatever tf his name was.

"Are you just returning from the mission? Sakumo also went to one few weeks ago but he still hasn't returned." His mom asked with some tension.

"Yes. I just came back from the Sand village. And I'm not surprised Sakumo was also called back on active duty so soon despite his extended leave. The situation between the four shinobi villages is getting more complicated day by day. It's all starting to feel like war again. I won't be too surprised if a third war broke out in a few years. The missions have also gained higher
ranks." Orochimaru sighed.

After that it was some meaningless conversation which Satoru did not pay attention to. And they went their separate ways after saying farewells.

His dad returned later that night covered in blood and scratches. He was already asleep in his crib by that time but was awoken due to his mother's worried voice talking to his dad in the living room.

"What were you thinking Sakumo? How on earth did you of all people get this injured?"

"It's not my blood, honey. Don't worry." His dad's voice was unusual. Normally, it was full of love and softness while talking to him or his mom but now it was too rough and tired, as if he had the weight of the world on his shoulders.

"Misa?"

"Yes?"

"The shinobi team I killed today mostly contained kids. They looked at me with such anger and fear. I can still see their haunted faces in front of me whenever I close my eyes. And every time I'm reminded of our own son." Sakumo's voice was fragile.

Satoru heard his mother sigh and then shuffling. Like his parents were hugging. And then there were only soft hushing voices and sniffling.

Satoru tried to piece together whatever information he had gained.
First, he was in a dystopian world where there were different villages with magical ninjas having different powers.
Second, the villages were run by some sort of leader, about which he didn't have too much information about still.
And third, the ninjas had ranks among them and depending on those ranks, they were sent on different missions. His father was probably a higher ranked officer, considering he was sent on an S-rank mission. That Orochimaru man was probably a high ranked one too.

With all this knowledge, Satoru knew if he wanted to protect his mom and dad , he needed to become as strong as possible and in little time. With mentions of a war around the corner, he didn't have much time to waste.

Satoru would grow strong. The strongest. So he could protect his parents from all sorts of danger.
He would not fail this time. He would make sure of it.
