"Ah! Nonohara wait!" Michimiya said frantically as she spilled out of the gym doors.
Haru turned back for a second, sparing her a guilty look. Michimiya's big eyes bore into hers, apologetically.
Haru felt terrible. Well of course, she was running away... But what else could she do? As long as Kikuchi kept snubbing her she was as useless as a fly on the wall. And it wasn't like Kikuchi would leave either. Alongside with her sky high pride, she was the only setter, and as hard as it was to admit, she was decent too. The team needed her.
As for Haru, they didn't need her. Not if she couldn't touch the ball. Not if she couldn't score. And as much as she wanted to play volleyball at Karasuno she was done bringing everyone down because of some petty feud. Even if said feud was completely out of her control.
Haru turned right around and kept walking. Away from the gym and away from her problems.
Michimiya opened her mouth to say something, anything to convince her to come back, but then she shut it tight. She realized there was no point; For the months she had known and played alongside her she knew Haru wasn't the type to explode like that unless she was dead set on something. So she merely watched from the door as Haru's figure faded further into the distance.
-----
Half an hour had passed as Haru trudged aimlessly around the school grounds, not even realising she still hadn't left. Consumed by her thoughts, she desperately tried to come up with any sort of solution—any small chance to keep playing volleyball.
She couldn't just give up on it. It was her entire world, since the moment her father had placed a volleyball into her hands, that was the only thing that mattered. So she even considered moving schools. Perhaps the Shiratorizawa girls would take pity on her after what had occurred... Well, her grades were mediocre but if her dad gave her a recommendation then maybe...
No. She stopped that thought in its tracks. That was the opposite of what she wanted. She didn't need any help, not from her dad or anyone else for that matter. She could figure out something on her own.
But what other option did that leave? At this rate, she would be reduced to the role of a manager for the boy's team...
Though In that passing thought she physically stopped in her tracks.
"Just quit and join the boy's team already!"
Kikuchi's words rang in her head.
And, oddly enough, the place she had stopped was just outside the boy's gym.
It was stupid. Really stupid. It wasn't like she actually wanted to join their team. That would have been crazy. But out of pure curiosity, she peered through their open gym doors just to take a peek.
The sounds of shoes squeaking, spikes hitting, and distinct yelling filled her ears. "Kageyama do the toss again!!!" A short orange-headed boy exclaimed.
"Ok, ok I got it." The black-haired one replied grumpily.
Haru caught sight of the two, their faces obscured by the net, and watched on curiously.
The orange-haired boy instantly kicked his feet off the ground, flying up above the net with a strong jump. He stayed in the air for what seemed like an eternity, then she blinked and the ball had already been smashed to the ground lightning fast. She widened her eyes in shock.
Haru recognised it as a quick attack but really it was undeserving for the name. Quick couldn't even begin to describe it. It was unlike anything she had seen before.
