ADELAIDE LOWERED HER HEAD AS she walked into the drop ship. She pulled her cap further down, in attempt to cover her face more, before climbing up the ladder.
There were only two empty seats left and Adelaide headed towards the one furthest away from the exit. Just as she was about to strap herself i to the seat, a guard sat down on the other empty seat. Their eyes locked. Shit.
Before he could realise she wasn't actually a real guard, Adelaide quickly looked away. Her heart pounded against her chest rapidly, it felt like she was about to explode.
It only took a couple minutes after launch before the ship started shaking like crazy, making a few people shriek. All of a sudden, several screens on the walls came to life, revealing Chancellor Jaha.
"Prisoners of the Ark, hear me now. You've been given a second chance, and as your Chancellor, it is my hope that you see this as not only a chance for you, but a chance for all of us, indeed for mankind itself. We have no idea what is waiting for you down there. If the odds of survival were better, we would've sent others. Frankly, we're sending you because your crimes have made you expendable."
"Your dad's a dick, Wells," someone yelled, causing a lot of people to laugh and everyone to look over at the boy. Wells Jaha. The Chancellor's kid. Weird, Adelaide hadn't heard anything about him doing anything illegal. What the hell could Wells possibly have done to be there?
Adelaide's eyes flickered to the blonde girl next to Wells, whose eyes locked with hers. Clarke. Adelaide and Clarke used to be best friends. That was until Adelaide's mother was floated. Something changed. Maybe they changed. Every time they passed, both of them tried their best to ignore the other. They didn't even acknowledge each other's presence. If the two of them were to meet, they would start arguing and name-calling each other.
Clarke finally looked away when she was interrupted by a boy floating in front of her. Something about him seemed familiar, too familiar.
"Spacewalk bandit strikes again. Whoo! Go, Finn." Someone called out, then she finally realised. Ah, Raven's boyfriend.
Finn mumbled something to Wells Adelaide couldn't hear, but by the looks on Wells' face, she couldn't help but smile.
Clarke called something out to a boy who tried to get put of his seat. "Stay in your seats!"
Adelaide's smile quickly faded when the ship started shaking again, causing Finn and two other floating boys to fall to the ground roughly. Panic rose inside everyone, even Adelaide. Finally, there was a loud crash, followed by machines stopping.
