Author's Pov
Laira stared at the beautiful garden with empty gaze, the same enchanting view she had created, her hardwork of a year and determination made once barren land into a colorful heaven of flowers, she would have enjoyed the peace this place was providing if only she had given her everything to blossom this garden for herself but no!
She did it for him. Alec loved flowers and nature the most, and Laira knew, she thought that maybe after seeing how much efforts she had given to this place for his happiness might open his heart to her but it didn't. He simply discarded her hardwork saying that he disliked everything she did and now he hated this garden as well.
Laira tried running her mind trying to get the answer to the question that once George asked her before she gave up on her cruel husband.
Tell me one thing you tried doing for yourself after your marriage?
She tried and tried but even after 8 months of running her mind she couldn't get any answer, it had almost been three years of their marriage, their third anniversary was just a month away, and she still couldn't find any reasonable answer to that nerve wrecking question. Two years of pain, 5 months of trying to get away from him and 6 months of losing all the hopes she held onto once.
The only thing she remembered from this sham of a marriage was her letting him walk all over her, destroying her sanity and enslaving her as he wished. She did everything only for him, her desperate love of years had taken away everything she had, and unfortunately she couldn't even blame that feral man for the destruction she suffered.
She chose this! She chose him over the people who actually cared about her, the way she told her parents off her house the day they came to get away from this monster was the day she had stamped her ruination. They listened to her, they never turned to look at her again to see if she was even alive or not, the very next day she was disowned by her parents and lost all the worth she left remaining in her in laws eyes.
Her mother in law wasn't always this cruel, she actually was nice and was in favour of their marriage until after 6 months of the wedding when her parents disowned her and she was no longer the daughter of one of the well known business men in the city. The facade was thrown off by her mother in law and the unbearable journey of unpaid labour and verbal abuse started.
Laira tried to ask for the divorce after two years when she realized she indeed would never be able to get him forget that liar and make her house in his heart so finally, she decided to let him go but he didn't have the same plans. The man locked her up and kept her hungry for two days with only one cup of water as a punishment for asking for the divorce. Laira knew it was impossible to divorce him but with George's help she might be able to leave this country after all Alec's power was limited to this country only.
But that plan of her backfired so hard that it ended up burning her last hope as well, she remembered how he beaten George until he couldn't walk anymore and kept her body caged with the bruised man raising her guilt and pain. After that night she vowed to never leave Alec, she let her life to stay as a play tool at his hands.
"What are you thinking so deeply?" She flinched when his deep voice suddenly entered her ears making her turn her head to his side.
He had his right elbow placed on the chair's arm and his cheek rested over his palm as he gazed deeply at her face, she had no idea for how long he had been sitting here staring at her like she was the most interesting picture to look at. Even though Alec hadn't said those three words yet but his rest of the dialogues conveyed that he actually feelings for her and wanted a proper family with her now.
It had been a week they had a discussion and Alec decided to open the envelope but unfortunately the envelope was with his secretary who had left the country for some business matter and would be returning only after another week. But even though he didn't know the truth yet still his behaviour towards that taken sudden change.
He didn't let his mom roam around her anymore, only Mira came here once with some healthy food for her pregnancy phase but Laira showed no enthusiasm and never let the chance to show how she didn't want this child, it was being forced on her, her accusation was answered with only one sentence each time.
I never forced myself on you! We always had a consented sex and it was you who seemed to skip the pill!
And it indeed was true, the baby happened the night Laira tried calling her parents one last time but the worker picked it up and clearly told her that she was no one to them now, in the moment of weakness and vulnerability she let the man who comforted her that night take over her pain and that was first time when he actually was gentle with her. She was so sad even after waking up that she completely forgot about the pill which she knew wouldn't make any difference anymore.
"Nothing." Finally the woman gave not a sarcastic answer which made him straighten himself, maybe now they could have a better conversation, a normal one, thinking that he continued.
"How was your day? Do you have any cravings?" Alec had been asking her this question a lot as the woman never asked anything from him, she never showed any sign of wanting or craving for something and he was dying for her to ask him something.
"Yeah, I actually have one craving," He didn't hold back a little tilt of his lips as he nodded excitedly at her bit dropped the moment woman look at him with empty gaze shooting him with bullet of her venomous words.
"I craved to not see your repulsive face, it give me nausea and I very much have no energy to vomit again." And here goes the normal conversation.
"Can we like just for once can we talk like a fucking adults!" She ignored his words and kept her blank gaze on the garden, Alec calmed himself before again smiling at her. He tried holding her hand but she simply slipped it inside her jacket pockets.
"The gardener is doing a great job, it looks beautiful right?" He purposely poked her where she used to get butthurt the most.
He still remember whenever he gave the credit of her hardwork to the gardener she would jump up and started blabbering around him that it was her who made this garden and she had taken no help from the garden and again it wanted that reaction from her but it never came. She simply stared at the place ignoring him like he was talking to an illusion.
"Lair---" Before he could continue, one of his guard came in running to him making him frown.
"What is it? Why did you enter the garden area without permission?" He stood up covering the seat on which his wife was seated who didn't care one damn bit of what was happening until the guard spoke again.
"There is a guest on the door sir, and she's demanding to meet you, she says you know her." Laira steadily stood up from the seat making Alec to glance in her way before frowning at the guard.
"Who is it?" The guard was about to speak up when they all heard a familiar high pitched voice gaining their attentions.
"Alec!" With that a familiar form ran right in his arms making Laira tilt his head a bit to get the look of the girl and indeed it was her.
"Kira." She whispered in pure astonishment.
She was alive, she didn't die?
