author's pov

Today was another normal day in Camp Campbell. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, the birds are chirping. It was a beautiful summer day, practically perfect.

... and David being tied up by the campers, while they all threw food at him. You know, the usual.

It would've been Quartermaster, but unfortunately for David, he was absent for the time being.

"Now, Max. That's not very nice." David's scolding gets interrupted by Max who throws a tomato at his face.

The school bus that brings campers to the camp abruptly enters and hits David with a scream, making all the campers stop and look at the counselor on the ground.

"New kid's here." Quartermaster grumbles as he opens the bus door.

"New kid? Now that's peculiar." David stands up as if he wasn't even hurt, scratching his head with confusion. Hearing the ruckus, Gwen unenthusiastically walks out from the Mess Hall and stands beside him. "I don't remember a new camper joining us in our schedule. Do you know anything, Gwen?"

"I don't know." She shrugs and unties him with no initial reaction, as if she's used to this by now. "All information about the camp emailed to me goes straight to junk."

"What??" David looks at his co-counselor in bewilderment. "Why would you do that?! That's important information, those files have to be printed!!"

Gwen snorts in amusement. "Why would I want to dedicate my time to this shithole camp more than I already have to?" She rhetorically asks, and David stares at her with a frown and wide, confused eyes.

A young teen hops off the bus with a curious glance, along with most of the campers eyes on her.

"Well, hello there young camper!!" David greets cheerfully. "You must be..." his voice trails off and Gwen hands him her phone so he could look at the camper's information. "(Y/N)!"

"(N/N)." The girl quickly corrects, earning some giggles from the campers and loud laughs from specifically the trio - Max, Nikki and Neil.

"Your name is (Y/N)??" Max mocks amidst of laughter, and David shoots him a frown. "That's not very polite, Max."

"Suck a di—"

"This... doesn't look like arts and crafts camp." The girl named (Y/N) cuts off the tanned boy as she frowns, only giving Max a glare until she looked up at David.

"Nope! This is Camp Campbell!" David keeps his upbeat tone and grins at the (S/C) skinned girl. "Where we have every type of camp, in our camp!"

(Y/N) stays silent for a couple of seconds, and squints her eyes. "This is a scam, isn't it?"

"Whaddya know, the newbie's not a dumb fuck." Max comments.

"Max." Gwen chides him with a glare, and crosses her arms. "But, you're right. Sorry kid, your parents signed you up for a scam."
