Heartbeats and roses

Melanie's POV

I got off the phone and ran into my room. I jumped on my bed and buried my head into the pillow. I heard my door creek open. It was my mom.

"Was that the guy
you've been telling
me about?"

"Yes"

"Oh so are you going
to Starbucks with him"

"Yes, but how did you know about that?"

"I was listening on
the other phone"

"Mom!!!"

She smirks

"You better get ready
it's already two thirty"

"Ok, do you think joe will mind?"

Joe is my stupid step-dad my mom married him only a year after my dad went missing in action or mia as it said on the blue sheet. My dad was in the military. And don't get me wrong joe takes good care of mom and I but he will never be my dad.

"Oh I don't think he'll
mind"

I put on a pair of booty shorts, a salmon coloured tank, and some blue and black flip-flops grabbed my phone and started to walk to the Starbucks.

Starbucks is only a couple blocks away from where I live so it was pretty close but it was really quite far from Sams house which was a whole fifteen blocks away. His mom or sister will probably drive him though.

When I arrive Sams about a quarter of a block away. I guess he walked all that way. Wow!

"Hey"

"Hi"

He says panting. We walk into Starbucks.

"What would you like?"

"I'll get a vanilla bean frappuccino please"

"And I'll get a white chocolate mocha please"

We told the cashier

"That will be six dollars and fifty cents please"

She said

Sam handed her the money

"Thank you please come again"

We walked out to Madison park

There was a long awkward silence then I finally spoke.

"So um... how's your sister?"

"The babies fine but she caught Harry cheating on her so they broke up"

I can see he's sad even though he's smiling.

"What's wrong?"

I ask

"I haven't seen her this sad before Mel"

"Well it takes time for a scab to heal doesn't it"

"I love it when you talk all metaphorically"

He says making me blush. I check the time and its four I'm supposed to be home right now

"I'm late I have to go home"

"Oh uh ok"

I get up to leave but quickly lean over to him and kiss him on the cheek. I quickly walk home.
