Diana was left speechless, barely being able to believe that this was now her life. The moment Edmund had exited the room Carissa started talking in a raspy voice. "I have a feeling I will get sick of you guys very quickly." She said laughing, but she was interrupted by a coughing fit.

Diana's face was red as a tomato, but she quickly went to get some water for her friend. "How dare you speak like that to your princess." She teased when Carissa had finally calmed down. "Apologies your highness, it's just that you two are so cute that it makes me sick." She teased.

The two girls giggled until late in the night, when they finally fell asleep with smiles on their faces.

The next couple of days went on without any significant events. Carissa was slowly gaining energy, and was now able to get out of bed and get food for herself, however Diana still insisted on bringing it to her. They took some walks in the garden so that Carissa could get some fresh air, since the Narnian air seemed to be working wonders for regaining her strength.

Edmund and Peter were preparing for the trial ahead. They had summoned the council and were awaiting them any day now. They had prepared their case and their witness, and most importantly they made sure king Azaan knew nothing of the plan. Though they did not assume it would be easy even if they managed to catch him by surprise. Diana had told them that he was a cunning and charismatic king, he knew how to speak to make people believe him.

During this time Diana and Edmund were both busy doing different things, so they went long times without seeing each other, and when they did it was always brief. Diana was starting to miss Edmund. They had not talked properly in so long. And although she still spent time with the queens, she felt lonely in a way she had never experienced before. Sure she had felt lonely most of her life when she only had Carissa, but this was different.

One night, Diana could not sleep, because she kept thinking about Edmund, who was in the room right next to hers, but he might as well have been on the other side of the world. She could not take it anymore.

Diana got up as quietly as possible so that she would not wake Carissa. She pulled a robe around her and slowly opened the door, checking that there wasn't anyone around. Then she slipped out and closed the door quietly.

She knocked on the door to Edmund's room and jumped when the door opened immediately. "S-sorry, I, I couldn't sleep, and..." She was interrupted when Edmund grabbed her hand and pulled her in to his arms, closing the door behind her.

Diana's heart was racing. She wasn't sure what she had expected but this was definitely not it. She wrapped her arms around him, and buried her face in his shirt, and started to cry.

When she had finally run out of tears she took a deep breath, and relaxed in Edmund's arms. He hadn't said anything the whole time, just held her close, and kissed the top of her head.

"I missed you so much." Edmund whispered, and tightened his arms around her. "I missed you too." She whispered back, her voice hoarse from crying. She wanted to say more, but she just couldn't find the words to describe what she was feeling.

Edmund kissed her forehead, and lifted her face to look her in the eyes. "I'm sorry I've been so distant lately. I promise it will not be like this after the trial." He said. "I know." Diana smiled as Edmund's thumb traced her jawline. He looked like he wanted to say something for a second, but then changed his mind, and leaned in to kiss her. The kiss was impatient, and he had one hand behind her neck and the other behind her back, pulling her as close as he possibly could, but somehow it wasn't enough.

Diana's heart was racing. It was like all the things she had been feeling and couldn't say, were now being said to her. She placed her hands behind his head and responded to his kisses.

After a while, Diana reluctantly pulled away. "We should get some sleep." She whispered. Edmund started to walk towards his bed still holding her. "No wait!" She stopped. "I should sleep in my own bed. It's improper for us to sleep together before we are married." Diana's face was flushed, and she couldn't look Edmund in the eyes. He gave a tired hoarse chuckle from him, that made her shiver. "As you wish my princess." He then kissed her lips, her cheek, her neck and her hand before he reluctantly let her go.

The next morning when Diana woke up, Carissa was not there. She felt a panic rise in her, and jumped out of bed and called Ava. The leopard rushed in to the room. "What is it your majesty?" She asked, looking around the room for any sign of danger. "It's Carissa, she's gone." She explained. Diana was wildly pulling at the fabric of a dress she was trying to put on, but in her hurry she hadn't loosened the corset enough so she was stuck.

Ava giggled at the struggling princess. "Your majesty, Carissa woke up some hours ago, she went to the kitchen, not wanting to wake you up." Diana stopped struggling with the dress, and pulled it off, making her hair stand out in all directions. She looked at the leopard in confusion. "What time is it?" "Nearly lunchtime your majesty." Ava answered, lowering her head, trying to contain her laughter at the sight of the princess.

Just then Carissa walked in. "Oh so you're finally awake your m... majes..." Carissa couldn't finish her sentence before she burst out laughing. Diana's face turned red with embarrassment. "Shut up, it's your fault I look like this." She said walking over to the changing area so she could see herself in the mirror.

Carissa helped the princess get dressed and untangle her hair. "You should probably head to the dining hall for lunch now." Said Carissa when she was done. "Thank you Carissa, I'm starving." Diana was about to leave, but then turned back around and hugged Carissa tightly. The maid was surprised but hugged her back. "Please don't ever do that again." Diana whispered. A lump in her throat was hindering her in speaking any louder. "I'm sorry your majesty."

When she came to the dining hall, the  Pevensies had already started eating. "Dina, we thought you were still sleeping." Said Lucy standing up to give her a good morning hug. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize what time it was." She said before taking Edmund's hand, who had stood up to help her sit. Before he sat back down in his chair next to her, he placed a quick kiss on her cheek. Diana's face turned red, remembering last night's events. "Ugh, get a room you two." Lucy said teasingly, and the others giggled.

Suddenly Mr. Thumnus burst in through the doors, out of breath he exclaimed: "They're here! The council is here."
