The air in the room seemed to grow heavier as Alexa's accusation hung between us like a heavy cloud. My heart pounded in my chest, and I exchanged a quick, desperate glance with Logan, silently pleading for a lifeline.

"What?" I stammered, my voice cracking with nerves. "That would be insane, we are friends."

I could feel the weight of Alexa's gaze boring into me, her scrutiny unyielding. Despite my feeble attempt at denial, it was clear that she wasn't buying it. My palms grew clammy, and I resisted the urge to fidget under her penetrating stare.

Alexa's expression hardened, her skepticism palpable. "Don't insult my intelligence, Genesis," she retorted, her tone sharp. "I may not have caught you two in the act, but I'm not blind."

"Why would I lie to you?" I felt awful lying to her, but I had to.

"I was hoping you could tell me," damn, she wasn't budging.

But before I could gather the courage to speak, Alexa's voice pierced through the silence once more, her tone softer now, tinged with a hint of disappointment.

"I'm not here to judge," she said, her gaze flickering between us. "But whatever is going on between you two, it needs to stop. This... arrangement is a liability, especially given the media circus surrounding Genesis right now."

I nodded, unable to meet her gaze. The weight of her words settled over me like a heavy blanket, suffocating and oppressive.

"Good thing nothing's going on then," I managed, my attempt at a smile falling flat.

Logan interjected, his voice calm and sincere. "We truly are just friends," he reassured, his words steady and genuine. "I mean, it's only natural. Living together has brought us closer, but it's strictly platonic."

I glanced at Logan, thankful for his effort to diffuse the tension, but anxiety still gnawed at me.

"You better not be lying to me right now," Alexa replied, her tone sharp.

"We are friends," I repeated firmly, hoping to reassure her.

Alexa studied us for a moment, her eyes narrowing. "Alright, I'll take your word for now. But remember, if I find out you're hiding something, it won't end well."

Logan nodded, and I felt a slight relief wash over me. We had managed to keep our secret safe, at least for now.

As Alexa walked away, Logan turned to me, a small smile playing on his lips.

"Well, that could've gone worse," Logan said once the door closed behind Alexa, leaving us alone in the apartment.

I let out a breath I didn't realize I'd been holding. "Yeah, it really could have."

Logan moved closer, his expression softening. "We'll be okay. We just need to stay calm and stick to our story."

I nodded, trying to gather my scattered thoughts.

"We need to be more careful, if Alexa could tell something was going on, then anyone might realize it too."

"I know," he replied.

"Stick to the rules," I say, reminding him for the tenth time already.

I couldn't have anything else going wrong in my life right now.

Alexa was right, if this little arrangement got out to the public it could spell disaster for both of us.

"I won't slip up," he assured me, his voice laced with determination.

"Maybe we could just keep our distance when we're around others?"

"That could work..."

"I mean not that we see that many people, but even when we do, we have to be careful. No physical touch and no puppy eyes."
