A Heart Caught In Crime

Chapter 2 - Looking About.

I rolled out of bed at around 7 am. Time to start putting in applications for jobs. I take a quick shower and put my hair in a tight donut bun with some light makeup. Looking through my luggage I spot the perfect outfit. Black ripped jeans paired with a white tee shirt, black leather jacket, black on white Addis with silver jewelry. I walk down the long corridor and make a left to the elevator landing, press the button and check my phone for any important notifications. Dry. Just some Twitter notifications, a few likes on instagram, and an email from my college professor congratulating me on graduating with honors.

In the lobby I grab some light breakfast to go and a small cup of coffee all the while making small talk with the front desk receptionist. There are quite a few businesses within walking distance of the hotel I'm currently staying at so I chose to walk instead of drive. I put in a few job applications one being at a small Mom and Pop diner just down the street. It looked quite cute on the inside and the menu items looked delicious so I decided to come back for dinner later on today.

I finished putting an applications around noon so I started making my way back to the hotel while walking back I decided to check my phone once more.

*missed call from Realynn*

My eyes widen as it's been a while since I've talked to her. I decided to call her back once I got back to the hotel. I was only about 10 minutes away, so I decided to pick up the pace a little bit.

Once I arrive back at the hotel, I gave a small wave and smile to the desk receptionist that is currently in a guest, she notices me and gives me a small hand gesture back with a half smile. I go up to my room and bring out my phone scrolling through my contacts. I finally stumble up on Raelynn's name. I click call and she picked up on the first ring.

"TASHA! I missed you! Nathan said you left yesterday and hasn't heard from you since." She exclaimed very excitedly at first then changed to a worried tone

"Yeah I moved to New York City Rea, I needed something that Tallulah just couldn't give. I'm currently staying at the Pod 51 hotel at least until I can find a job and an apartment." I said trying to assure her that I'm really okay.

"Once you get settled and I want to know immediately I would love to come up and see you. I have missed you so much since I have moved away."

"Raelynn, I will definitely let you know you know that. I've missed you a lot too, and I'm glad you called. Although I did miss it and I had to call you back."

Raelyn and I talked for what seemed like an eternity. We said our goodbyes and hung up the phone. I checked the time 2 PM. No wonder I feel like I was starving it's because I was! I decided to order in some thing like just to hold me over until about six or seven because I really want to go to that diner.

I pull up the DoorDash app on my phone and start looking through the options that I have for the new area. I decided to order salt and pepper shrimp from the Blue Ribbon Brasserie with a sweet tea for the drink. Estimated time was 45 minutes. That's fine. I can wait 45 minutes.

About 15 minutes after I placed the order, I get a phone call from an unknown number not feeling very sure about it. I answered reluctantly.

"Hello?" I ask a few seconds after answering

"Hi!" The woman on the other end of the line said happily " am I speaking with a miss Natasha Miller?"

"Yes that's me, may I ask who's calling?" I tried to not sound like a total ass hole as I spoke

"Oh I'm sorry this is Claudia Kane over at The Fox's Diner, I'm looking at your application and I would like you to come in for an interview. When would be best for you?"

"I was actually thinking of coming in for dinner tonight. I would love to do an interview some time today if possible."

"Oh absolutely! What time were you planning on coming in later today? I'll pencil you in after you finish your dinner how's that sound miss Natasha?"

"That sounds wonderful Claudia! I'll be there at 6:30."

"All right I'll see you then!"

And with that we hung up the phone. I got a huge smile on my face. Day one in New York and I've already landed a job interview. And just then there was a knock on my door, I look through the peep hole. Nobody. I crack the door to see if it was a child or just a prank, I look down and spot a bag with the Blue Ribbon logo on it. My food! I almost forgot about it. I quickly bring it into my room and sit down at the dest ready to enjoy the amazing smelling meal.

After about 20ish minutes I lean back in my chair with a full belly and a happy heart. It's a little after 3 now so I go to the bathroom and freshen up a little before cleaning up the room and the slight mess I had made while eating. I notice a stain on my shirt and go to change. I look through my clothes and pull out an olive green tee shirt and throw it on.

6:15 rolls around and I wasn't that hungry but knew I had the interview soon. I walk down the the truck and start to head out.

At the diner I sit at the bar and place an order of some mozzarella sticks and a sweet tea with lemon. The server asked if I was Natasha and I replied "Yes, I am" with a smile on my face.

"Great! I'll grab Claudia for you after I put your order in"

"Awesome thank you" I reply.
