I had begun pacing the hallway in rage, and Mehe Kalfa was unsure of what to do with me. She tapped her chin and then finally said,
"Calm down Valencia. I suppose it's not your destiny to be a Sultana. You should be content, and perhaps I'll transfer you off to be a maid or-"
I didn't let her finish the sentence. I heard what she said, loud and clear. 'Valencia, you aren't material to be a queen. Arketá is who we need.'
But I won't have it.
"I am Valencia. My name means 'strong', for I am strong enough to pursue the task of my destiny, to go down the golden road and see Sultan Osman at the end of it, and I will not rest till I fulfill my quest!"
I sighed. In a more calm voice I said, "Mehe Kalfa, I will be the next and last person to bed with Sultan Osman in the near future."
Mehe rolled her eyes.
"My bets are on Arketá Hatun. What makes you think you can make it?"
"I am the only one of us two who has the will to succeed, and rather than to fool around, get to work in making Osman happy, and everyone else. I will help unify, and promote love and peace. I'm not wanting him for greed and clout, I truly love and see our Sultan, the great Sultan Osman Khan, as my future."
The kalfa nodded. 'I will do my best to help you', she mouthed to me. I raised my chin higher, and with the air and grace of the Sultana Legends, I made my way to my room. Behic, I told myself, you are on the path to having your story be told. I then proceeded to pray.
Dear almighty God, I will not rest until I fulfill my task and achieve my goals, and you can hold me to these very words till the day I leave this Earth!
