Akaashi sat in the kitchen watching Bokuto and Kuroo argue about pineapples on pizza. When they asked his opinion he just left and didn't get involved. Tendou was waiting for him in the living room. He leaned on door frame across from Akaashi. Akaashi stopped, surprised by the red head staring at him.
"Uh, hi.." he muttered awkwardly. Tendou just grinned at him. It made Akaashi uncomfortable. The arguing died down in the kitchen after someone's phone rang. Kuroo's voice calmed down as he listened to the person on the other side. He walked up next to Akaashi and peeked into the room.
"Tendou," he held the phone in his direction, "it's Important," he explained. Tendou stood up off the doorway and walked to Kuroo, making eye contact with Akaashi the whole time. His grin faded when he got close to Akaashi. He held the phone to his ear and walked through the front hallway. Ushijima came in a few seconds after with Suga following him.
"Hey boss," Kuroo waved over his shoulder as he turned back into the kitchen. Suga didn't respond. He looked tired, even though he was just as put together as the day before. He sat on the couch and leaned back, pinching the bridge of his nose. Ushijima watched him for a moment and then walked back through the front hallway. Akaashi headed back into to kitchen to find Bokuto sitting at the counter on a bar stool. Kuroo had gone back upstairs leaving Bokuto and Akaashi alone.
Bokuto had a glass of something, he watched the ice for minute. Akaashi sat on the bar stool next to him.
"What's up with Suga? He seems off today," Akaashi broke the silence.
"He probably saw the news too," Bokuto glanced at the boy next to him.
"I don't understand, why would someone try to frame you guys so much?"
"We're not the nicest people, I'm surprised more groups haven't tried," he looked back at his glass. Akaashi dropped the topic. He could tell that Bokuto didn't want to talk about it much. He didn't want to interrogate him.
"How'd you sleep?" Bokuto broke the silence, "I forgot to ask this morning,"
"Oh, I slept great, thanks," Akaashi smiled softly. Bokuto's eyes met his for a second, a gentle grin spread on his face. Bokuto noticed and looked away, clearing his throat.
"Good,"
Akaashi pretended he didn't see that, "how about you?"
"Slept like shit, that couch sucks," Bokuto chuckled.
"Oh.."
"Eh, s'fine. I've slept on worse," he stood up, stretching his back. His phone buzzed on the counter. He glanced at the message, then put his phone in his pocket. He frowned.
"What?"
"Nothing," he started towards the back door of the kitchen. He pushed open the door.
"Come on. Tendou's meeting us there," he slightly shouted back as the door closed. Akaashi followed him.

They drove to an abandoned building in the middle of more empty businesses and houses. It was four stories high and looked like it was going to collapse at any second. Bokuto had been the one to drive this time. It was only him and Akaashi. Tendou wanted to meet here to plan something, but no one would tell Akaashi what. Akaashi had been sending frequent updates on anything he could. Daichi hadn't responded to any of his messages, probably caught up in other things.
Bokuto lead him up the steps to the roof. The door creaked as he opened it and Akaashi thought it would fall off its hinges. He followed Bokuto to the side of the roof. They stopped in front of the ledge and Bokuto put a cigarette in his mouth. He held it in his teeth for a moment before he got his lighter out. The sky was a mix of oranges and pinks as the sun went down. Akaashi glanced at the man at his side. The sun lit his futures just right. His eyes were golden in the light and he just seemed to glow. The cold air made Akaashi's breathe visible, almost like the smoke Bokuto breathed out. He caught the dark haired boy staring.
"What?" He chuckled, a grin playing on his lips. Akaashi looked away, hiding his embarrassment.
"Where's Tendou?" He avoided eye contact.
"Dunno," he sighed, "why? You in a hurry to leave?" His sly smile widened.
"No, it's just really fucking cold," Akaashi left his jacket at the house. Bokuto scoffed and stepped closer to the man at his right. Akaashi reflexively moved away, unsure of the intentions behind the action. The taller man laughed.
"Come here, I'm not cold," he reached out his right arm, inviting Akaashi to come closer. He hesitated, but his face hurt from the wind and he couldn't feel his fingers, so he took the opportunity. Bokuto's strong arm wrapped around his shoulder, pulling him closer than he expected, and wrapping his other arm around to meet the other. Akaashi was surprised at how warm he was. His head was pressed against the other's chest. Bokuto really wasn't much taller than him, but he hunched over a little so he fit in the hug. He could hear Bokuto breathing. He could hear his heartbeat. He could feel his own heart in his ears. It was fast, but he wasn't anxious. He was very comfortable. He felt himself sink into the arms around him.
"This is my favorite place in the city," Akaashi felt the vibrations from Bokuto's voice in his chest, "no one else comes here. It's so quiet. You can see everything," he looked down at Akaashi, who was still shivering slightly.
"Am I interrupting?" Tendou's voice came from behind them. They turned to find him, Akaashi pulling away from Bokuto's arms. The red head was leaned against the doorframe that led inside. Akaashi cleared his throat.
"No."
"Good," he smiled at Akaashi. It was slightly threatening, but Akaashi nodded back.
"What's up?" Bokuto crossed his arms, still grinning.
"I had a thought," Tendou swung his arms back and forth as he walked to the edge of the roof.
"That's always scary"
Tendou glared at him, his grin dropping a bit, "have you noticed something off about Suga?"
Bokuto shrugged, "he seems stressed. We all are, with this bullshit on the news..."
"Bokuto, he's going soft," Tendou looked at Akaashi like he knew something he didn't. Bokuto knew what he was implying.
"He's not going soft," Bokuto rolled his eyes, trying to seem relaxed. Tendou raised his voice a little.
"he's getting lazy, he's starting to care less,""What makes you think that?" Bokuto seemed defensive. He put his smoke out on the concrete wall next to the door.
"He's hasn't made any effort to fix our reputation or get information on the people coming after us," he sat on the edge of the roof with his back to the city. He leaned back a little, gripping the edge loosely. He groaned, "not to mention he's hardly been at the house in months. Since we met with Kiyoko, he's been more lenient with everyone else. Something's up."
Bokuto sighed, rubbing the back of his neck, "I guess... but you're not actually gonna-"
"I have to, you know that" his grin returned to his face, "we need to re-establish our reputation before the banquet," Tendou and Bokuto stared at each other for a moment.
Bokuto took a breath to say something, but didn't. Tendou noticed and smirked. He stood from the edge and walked through the door.
"I'll have the job by the end of the week," he said, starting down the stairs.
"I'm not gonna help you this time," Bokuto called after him. Tendou paused.
"I know ..." he turned his head and glared at Bokuto, "he is," he nodded towards Akaashi. Bokuto looked at Akaashi and back to Tendou, but Tendou was already gone.
Akaashi watched Bokuto's back. Defeat rested in his shoulders as his head hung a little lower. He turned around slowly and smiled wide at Akaashi. He threw his arm around his shoulder and squeezed.
"Let's head back, it's getting late."
