A/N Sorry this is a day late. My week has been hectic. We are so close to the end! I have half of the next chapter written, I am slow as I have been brainrot with my other story. I will bless you with a quick summery so you can be excited lol
During the battle with Kaguya, Sakura and Kakashi are somehow blasted twenty-five years in the past... or into a strange version of the dream jutsu? They have no way to know for sure but either way, their only way is forward. Will they change things or stay out of the way so all of the tragic shit Kakashi lived through happens again?
It is my first attempt at any kind of slow burn so its a learning experience for me. Anyway, here is your weekly dose of Promises Remembered. Hope you love it!
Part 2 Chapter 20
Sakura
It was cute, Sakura thought, watching Kakashi move around their kitchen in her floral apron. She wondered if he had always worn it. Considering how Kazuki didn't even seem to notice, he must have. The thought that he'd always worn it when he cooked for their son made her smile.
"Lee-sensei said we're training all morning before our mission today." He accepted a plate of eggs and a bowl of rice from Kakashi and started eating quickly. "It's your first day home and I have to leave. Can you pass me the furikake, Mom?" She did. "Thanks. I wish I could stay with you today. Can't I? They're just going to be rescuing cats or helping old people. They don't need me."
Sakura chuckled softly to herself and opened her mouth to tell him that, no of course he had to go when Kakashi beat her to it. "Kazuki, these early missions are important. You need to learn how to work together as a team. Of course you have to go. We will both be here when you get home." He smirked. "Besides, you don't want Hanabi-chan to think you're unreliable, do you?"
Kazuki blushed deeply, alternating between glaring at Kakashi and looking furtively at Sakura. "Dad." Almost to himself, "Naruto promised not to tell—"
Kakashi laughed. "Please. I spent nine years in ANBU, son, I can get anything out of anyone. But no, he didn't say anything. I'm sure your secret's are safe with Naruto. You should, however, know better than to tell Genma something you don't want me to hear. He's a terrible gossip. Now," He sat down between them, setting food in front of himself and Sakura. "Finish eating and get out of here before you're late. If Lee is anything like Gai, you'll be running laps around the village with your whole team if you are."
They went back and forth a little more while Kazuki shoveled food into his mouth. Sakura sighed, something uncomfortable building up beside her heart as she listened, poking at her own breakfast. The last bite of his food was barely down his throat before Kazuki was grumbling and getting up from the table. "Since I have to go..." He stepped around Kakashi and wrapped his arms around her shoulders. "Bye, Mom. I'll miss you."
This time, Kakashi was too busy eating himself to speak first. "I know, but I'll be here when you get home. Tell Lee-sensei that I said hello, okay?"
"I will. I love you."
She kissed his temple before he pulled away. "I love you, too. Bye "
He ran around the table and across the room to the sliding doors leading to the balcony. "Bye, Dad!"
And then he was gone. Sakura sat, one elbow on the table staring after him and feeling the strangeness of their new dynamic heavily.
"Sakura?"
"Hm?"
Kakashi was watching her with a contemplative expression on his face. "He'll be fine. They're not even leaving the village."
