Unbothered
>>>>———— 🍀 ————<<<<

In the morning, sunlight seeped into the room through the gaps of the curtains. Agni stirred and opened her eyes. Everything seemed normal at first until she noticed the messed-up sheets next to her spot on the bed. Slowly, memories of last night came crashing down on her. She sat up with a jolt. Has Aryan left? She wondered to herself.

Her eyes darted around the room, scanning for any sign of him. Just as panic started to bubble up, the door creaked open. Aryan walked in, holding a tray with two steaming cups of coffee.

Agni's heart felt a warm relief upon seeing that he stayed, however, she didn't let it show on her face and kept her expression stoic. Aryan, who very plainly noticed it, mustered an equally stoic face as he walked over to Agni with the tray and placed it on the teapoy.

He cleared his throat as Agni sat on the bed with her hands crossed over her chest.

Coffee venuma?

Aryan asked, and received a very humiliating side-eye from Agni. He sheepishly looked away and as a cue,

Kondu vandhadhuku aprom venuma'nu kekran paaru! Loosu paiyan!

Both Agni and Aryan jerked their heads toward the door where Deepa stood peeping. The woman gasped when she realized she had spoken her thoughts out loud. Deepa chuckled sheepishly as she opened the door wide.

Tiffin kondhu vandhen, pesikitu irundhinga, adhan wait pannen

Deepa chuckled awkwardly again as she walked inside, pushing the trolley. Two pairs of eyes stared at her, making her nervous. She scurried away as soon as she left the trolley inside. Aryan shook his head in disbelief.

Na poi kulichitu vandhu saaptukuren. Nee kelambalam

Agni said casually as she stood up from the bed and walked towards the washroom, tying her hair into a bun. Aryan stood there watching her, with a curious and suspicious look. Did she just say he could leave? After all that happened? Unbelievable woman.

Agni stopped before entering the washroom. Aryan didn't know why, but a bubbling curiosity and a tiny bit of hope that she might ask him to stay washed over him. However, as Agni turned to face him, all he received was a... grumpy "bye."

When Agni walked out wearing a robe, she found Aryan sitting on the couch, and guess what—she wasn't even surprised. His face was grumpy as he aimlessly meddled with his fingers. Agni's lips curved into a triumphant smirk. Wiping her hair with the towel in her hand, Agni walked over to the wardrobe to dress.

As Agni was taking her clothes, she heard the wardrobe door creak open. Frowning, she turned around, but before she could process what was happening, Aryan swiftly pulled her close and pressed her gently against the wall. He towered over her, his hands placed on either side, effectively caging her in. His intense gaze bore into hers, and for a moment, the world outside ceased to exist. Their breaths mingled in the small space between them, and Agni could feel the warmth radiating from his body.

With widened eyes, Agni stared up at Aryan's serious face. His gaze was intense, filled with an emotion she couldn't quite decipher. The silence between them was heavy, and the air seemed to crackle with unspoken words. Aryan's closeness sent a shiver down her spine, her heart pounding in her chest as she tried to understand what was happening.

Yenna panrae Aryan?

Agni's voice came out lighter than she intended, more of a whisper.
However, the look on Aryan's face was one she couldn't decipher. Was he disappointed? Scared? Yearning? She couldn't tell. His eyes bore into hers with an intensity that made her breath catch.

Why are you not angry Agni?

Agni frowned at Aryan's question,

Na unna yemathiruken, nee en mela kova padhanum. Enna paakadhae nu solanum, adhikanum. Ana nee yenna panrae?

Aryan watched as Agni's expression softened with relief. Again, disappointment gnawed at him. Every little thing she did, every way she responded, made it harder for him to accept that things were over between them, that soon he would be leaving her, and they would become nothing but strangers.

Ennaku kovam varala Aryan

Adha yen?

Aryan pressed on, his voice betraying the desperation he felt to stay away from her. He had to; he had to stay away from her. And she, she had to be angry at him. That way, it would be easier for him to leave, knowing he didn't break her heart again.

He needed her to hate him so he could walk away without looking back.

Agni's eyes softened as she brought her hand behind her head, holding Aryan's palm that had been there all this time, keeping her head from hitting the wall. The soft thing her head had been resting against instead of the hard wall—his hand, his care, his love.

Agni gently brought Aryan's hand to her chest, feeling the warmth and reassurance it provided. She looked up at him, her voice tender as she softly said,

Idhunaala

Saying so, she smiled at him and let go of his hand, walking out of the wardrobe with her clothes. Aryan stood there, emotions crashing through him while being utterly overwhelmed by her words and actions.

Aryan peeked out of the wardrobe after a while and saw that Agni had changed and in fact was having her breakfast while scrolling through her mobile. As he sat down, Aryan couldn't help but observe Agni. There was a sense of familiarity in this routine, the way she focused on her phone screen, the occasional flicker of a smile that graced her lips as she scrolled through messages or social media updates. It was as if nothing had changed, yet everything had shifted. He longed to reach out to her, to break the barrier that seemed to have erected itself between them, but he hesitated, unsure of how she would react.

Taking a deep breath, Aryan began to eat, trying to mask the turmoil of emotions swirling inside him. He glanced up at Agni from time to time, catching her eye briefly before she looked away again. The silence between them was heavy, filled with unspoken words and unresolved tension. A part of him wanted to break it, but another part feared the consequences. So, they sat there, eating their breakfast in silence, the distance between them palpable yet somehow comforting in its familiarity.

Until Aryan remembered something important. Clearing his throat, he broke the silence,

Na unkitta oru mukkiyamana vishiyam kekkanum

Sollu

Agni said and Aryan took a deep inhale before he asked,

How exactly did your parents die?
