Natalie -
I walk threw the forest closely behind Daniel. He's tall and muscular so I think be could protect me from whatever those things were at the school. He hasn't said much this whole time. I start to wonder if I can even trust him. I take another look at him then shake my head to erase the idea. He's a good person. He's got to be or else he would have left me at the school. Right?
"How old are you,Natalie?"
His question catches me by surprise.
"Oh.. I'm eight..." I answer. "How old are you?"
"Ha,I'm nineteen," he replies. We ask each other questions about where we're from, family, and other stuff like that.
"So, you have a brother two," he says," what's his name?"
"Justin, he's fifteen."
Daniel opens his mouth to say something then, suddenly stops in the middle of the trail. Daniel starts turning his head like he hears something then, I start to hear it too. There's a reselling in the leaves behind us. I turn around to see one of the creatures. It look looks a lot worse than the others I saw with its flesh torn and rotten looking. It makes a snarling sound then attempts to grab me.
"Ahh!" I scream jumping back. Daneil picks me up and starts to run. He winces probably do to his arm injury.
"Look out!" I yell as more come onto the path. Daniel swears then pulls out his gun. He starts firing at them but more just keep coming. The gun starts marking a clicking sound instead of shooting bullets. Daneil swears again and starts backing up slowly.
"What do we do," I say terrified. He looks at me but doesn't answer. I watch in horror as the monsters get closer to us.
"Were going to be fine I just need you to trust me..Ok Natalie," he says looking into my eyes.
I nod my head, then he gets up.
"Hold on tight.." He's says then he starts running towards the monsters.
"What are you.." before I can finish he cuts me off.
"Just trust me."
I hold on tighter certain we're going to die. One of them comes at us but Daniel punches it in the chest. It doesn't effect the monster much but he stumbles back enough for us to get by. Daniel continues to do this until we're almost out. One of them jumps out in front of us. I kick it hard then Daniel punches it confusing it to fall to the ground. He keeps on running holding me close to him. After were far enough away from the hoard he stops and puts me down.
"I think...we're safe," he says breathing heavily.
"Yeah that was close.." I say.
"You ok ?" he asks.
"Yeah I'm good..that was just a little scary," I reply.
"Yeah, but we made it out. Your a tough kid Natalie."
"Thanks," I say with a smile,"but your the one who saved me."
"I think luck saved both of us," he says. Daniel looks around then starts walking. I fallow close behind him. I know I can trust him.
As we're walking I start to look up at the sky. I can't we the sun set but I know it's getting darker.
I really don't want to be out here at night.
"Hey, Daniel?" I say without thinking.
"Yes.." He says turning around.
"Um..I think it's getting dark."
"I think your right," he says looking up.
"Are we going to stay out here..at night.." I ask trying not to sound scared.
"No,I was hoping we'd find a house or something by now."
"We could go back to the school," I say jokingly. There was no way we were going back there.
He smiles then says,"can you climb trees?"
"Duh," I reply. He looks around at the trees, then he walks over to one and starts climbing up the branches.
"Are we sleeping in a tree?" I ask.
"Better than being late night snacks," he replies giving me a hand. I start to climb up the large Oak tree. It gets harder we're there less branches and more trunk. Finally, Daniel finds a strong limb to sit on. He starts shaking it to make shure.
"Don't do that!" I say sitting g down.
"Sorry, just testing," he says with a smile. We sit on opposite sides with our backs to the trunk.
"See, not to bad. It has a nice view," he says pointing to the setting sun.
"Yeah, it is pretty high though. I hope we don't fall," I say gripping the tree.
"Here," he says offering me a rope out of his back pack.
"Well tie our selves to the tree. That way it'll be safer."
"Ok.thanks," I say grabbing the rope then tying it around me. I hand the other end to Daniel. He raps it around the tree then ties him self.
"Yeah this is more comforting."
"We'll climb down tomorrow and try to get out of the woods,ok," Daniel says.
"Climbing down looks a lot harder than climbing up," I say looking down.
"Don't worry," he says with a laugh," we can do it. Now try to get some rest..."
"Ok. Good night Daniel," I say closing my eyes.
"Good night,Natalie."
Good night, Justin.
