Finally Home

We drove away as fast as we could. I sit back in my seat as Daneil continues to drive down the street of the city. There was nothing but silence as we dodged the group's of monsters. Miranda sat there staring strait ahead.
Billy was in the back waiting until we could find a safe place to let him into the truck.

Miranda finally breaks the silence,"we couldn't have saved him could we?"

"Mom.." Daniel says.

"No really," she says sadly,"was he still alive. Could we have done more?"

I think back to Manny 's life less body falling to the concrete. Could we have helped him?

"It happened so fast,"Daniel replies,"we did what we could."

"He was so young. He was the same age as you Daneil.." Miranda says sadly.

Daneil opens his mouth to say something then Billy knocks on the glass.

I turn around and open the little window.

"Yes," Daniel says.

"Not to cause any more stress, but ,uh, what do we do now?" He asks.

"Well..." Daniel says. For once he doesn't have a plan, other than always being on top of things.

"Um..do you think," I say quietly.

"Yeah, Natalie?" Daneil says questionably.

"It's just..do you think we could go by my house," I ask.

No one answers for a second.

"How far away is it,"Daniel asks. I think for a second.

"Not very far I really think I could tell you how to get there," I reply. I don't mean to, but I'm practically begging now. My parents and Justin could be there. Daneil hesitates. He looks at me and starts to say something. I fear it'll be a no so I give him one of those looks.

He takes a deep breath and answers,"Alright then I guess we could go," he says with a smile.

"Are you serious," Miranda asks.

"It's a good a plan as any," Daniel replies.

"It's good enough for me,"Billy says.

I can't help but smile as we start to leave the city.

My mom took me and Justin into.the city only a few times, but I can remember how to get home from here.

Once we finally get back into the more rural part of country.I try my best to direct Daniel to my neighbour hood.

After a while, I have somehow managed to get us at least to my town.

We drove past the high school and most of the stores. Billy suggested spring for supplies but nobody wanted to after what happened last time.

"We've got plenty of food ,Billy," Daniel says after the tenth store we past.

"I'm just saying there could be survivors like us," Billy says.

"It's not happening," Miranda says. Billy doesn't bother any more after that.

We make it to my street and silence falls over the group again.

We drive down the intersection with caution. The houses are all empty,or at least look that way. I see a stray dog run down the street, which is the only life on the entire block.

"Lively neighbour hood," Billy says sarcastically.

"Not the time Billy," Daniel says.

I tell Daniel which street to go down. We pass Adam's house. I stare at it as we drive by. Nothings changed since the last time I saw it. He probably didn't come home.
