chapter two
"ENJOY THE SILENCE"════ ⋆★⋆ ════
𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝐅𝐄𝐋𝐓 𝐌𝐄𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒 at the moment. Silence filled the forest as traces of life were nowhere to be found in the small area Blaire, Jane, and her father were crossing. The life they had before chaos erupted was taken from them not even a month ago. So far, survival was hard and the weather was harsh on the remaining members of the Sheilds family. The only sound emanating from the bushes and trees was caused by the breeze as the pair grew to accommodate the tiny movements, which caused tree branches and leaves to make tiny noises. No signs of life were present, everything seemed to have disappeared along with the brightness of the world.
It seemed as if existence had no meaning anymore and a wave of complete silence washed over what was once a world full of people. Jane had commented a few days ago on how she thinks the sky is darkening, even in the daylight, that it isn't as bright as it used to be, and Blaire agrees with her.
The shade of the trees was less prominent than before, almost as if the dead rising caused its shade to darken, to hide from the creatures lurking in the shadows, but the light wasn't safe anymore either.
Blaire couldn't recall the last time she spoke to her father. A series of non-coherent screams were heard when she stumbled upon her mother that morning, but other than that she has no memories of opening her mouth for something other than eating or drinking water. Speaking of which, she had heard her father talk to himself the nights before and mention something about provisions not lasting long. She supposed she didn't have to worry about it, only adults care about those types of things, right?
All Blaire was thinking about was finding shelter. It was the reason she, along with her family kept going. Their home had been lost the moment the windows broke on the first floor that morning, right at the start. The window from which monsters started crawling inside their house and terrorizing her parents who were clueless as to what was about to happen. Their father wished to hang on to every last bit of the past that they had left, resulting in him refusing to leave for the first couple of days, barricading the windows and doors to ensure the safety of the people inside. That didn't last long, as he had to come to terms with the fact that it was over. The world was over. Life was over, and he had to adapt to whatever faced his way from now on.

In the early morning, Blaire managed to wake up, she was greeted by the sun shining brightly as any traces of darkness and coldness were fading away. Orange hues cover the sky as the young teenager exits her shared cell to get a better glimpse at the sight she first saw. The halls of the prison were empty, silence filled the hallway as the only noises heard were her footsteps, walking around and heading outside.
