The next morning, Evelyn called her mother, who lived a few towns over. "Mom, do you know anything about a man named James? He wrote a letter to Grandma Clara during the war."
Her mother was silent for a moment. "James... Yes, I remember hearing about him. Your grandmother mentioned him a few times, but she never went into details. They were very close before she met your grandfather. Why do you ask?"
"I found a letter from him. I want to know more about their story."
Her mother sighed. "Your grandmother was a very private person. If you really want to know, you should visit Aunt Rose. She was the closest to Clara and might know more."
Evelyn thanked her mother and packed her bags. The next day, she set out for the countryside where Aunt Rose lived, eager to learn more about her grandmother's secret past.
