- John PoV -

together with Erin we left the building only to find ourselves in the middle of a crossfire, due to the darkness and only occasional light coming from the tactical rifles fired, my eyes did not want to adjust to the dark due to this and the light burned my eyes, we looked around for cover where I could have looked but it took me too long to look around because one bullet bounced off my armor and knocked me to the ground,

*PTANG*

John: SHIT

I fell on my back holding my chest plates as Sharon grabbed my vest and pulled me into cover behind a fallen lamp post

Sharon : you are nothing but a burden you idiot

Sharon immediately returned fire at the unknown enemy, when we let the pain go and I managed to take a deep breath, I turned and saw the unknown attacker moving towards our garages, it didn't take long for them to find our Hoverbikes, after that there was only a soft sound the engines started and they drove right past Ellie, who tried to stop them, but most of her shots were near, we all gathered at the parking lot where our vehicles were at high speed, Olya was the last to run and was pretty angry

Olya: FUCK, that's not possible, whose fault is it? who didn't warn about the threat in time?

that's what Sharon pointed out to me

Sharon: they were human so you should ask our "human" here

they all looked at me

John: What? they were not human

Sharon : then explain the uniforms

before we could get a word in, Erin ran up with a tact-pad in hand

Erin: on the walls of the camp they said they saw an unknown air craft flying over towards the city, the human ones left in the same direction on our vehicles

John: THEY WERE NOT HUMAN

Olya just grunted

Olya: we have something here to catch up with them

Lyn then just raised her hand as if to report to school, Olya looked at her and sighed with an annoyed face

Olya: yes Lyn? you have an idea

Lyn then pointed to the old family station wagon which had probably been there for some time because it was rusted and the tires were deflated

Lyn : car...good....moveable

everyone laughed at that, except me and Olya

Olya: fine, Sharon, Ellie, Lyn and I will try to catch up with them, the rest of you contact the base and above all make sure that John doesn't screw anything up

I was nothing but disgusted by her words, of course I was used to these insults but the mistrust and unpleasantness of this team never ceases to amaze me, while she and the rest of the team were trying to get the old box on wheels working, we noticed that apart from this the cars were rusted howitzers, I looked at them for a while before the alarm on my vest started beeping

Molly: John? come back here immediately

i seem to have something on my vest that sets off an alarm if i get too far away from the team i came back angry
