now, I shouldn't even be nervous since I all I really have to do is cartwheels and look pretty, but I'm still nervous about messing up. even though no one really would focus on me mainly cause Bebe or the other girls always have the spotlight.
I did my usually routine of flipping my septum and making sure my socks were scrunched up just right, I look around me, watching as every girl in the locker room prepared. Leslie right beside me as she applied gloss.
"aren't you excited lele? it's that big game coach has been losing her balls over."
I ask and stand straight against the lockers as I continue to look around, shuffling my feet.
"not really."
Leslie replied before screwing the lid back on the gloss and put it in her gym locker.
I smile, her nonchalant attitude was one of my favorite things about her, she's been my friend ever since elementary, she would always used to sit next to me durning assemblies and back then— she would be the one always talking and I would be the quiet one. it's funny to see how we both turned out.
but thanks to Leslie, I got to be more confident around people, she really helped me find myself. I don't know where I would be without her.
I watch as Leslie checks over herself in her gym locker's mirror, her side—swept side part and hair pulled back by a head band the colors of the school. she looked like Wendy— with the black hair and all— but more super model; Wendy was more of a victorian doll.
her eyes were also a very light blue, it used to scare me back in elementary but now I find it pretty.
"hey Leslie?"
Leslie looked at me through her mirror,
"remember the first time we met?"
I smile and tilt my head back against the lockers.
"you know how I believe in things like fate? well I think that was fate."
my heart started to beat faster as Leslie starting to grin. making my own appear.
"you can laugh if you want."
