The Ultimatum

Maxon's POV:

Now that I've told America that I want to propose to her, I haven't stopped smiling. Seeing how relieved she looked and also genuinely happy made me melt inside. I know it sounds so cheesy but the only moment that could possibly top that one is the day I see her walking towards me down the aisle.
I smile to myself at the thought but then the smile grows as I think about what happened after I told her.
We kissed for a while and then it became so passionate and- well... We broke a LOT of rules...
But it was definitely worth it.
I haven't stopped smiling and I think people have started to notice. It's been about a month since that night and it's all I think about. And every time I see America I can't help but stare because she is so unbelievably gorgeous and I know that I will have her to admire freely for the rest of my life. God, I'm smiling like such a moron right now.

Everyone is sitting around the tables in the dining hall for breakfast and I've caught myself eyeing America more than once. It seems my father has too.
He clears his throat. "Maxon. I'll not have you staring at that Five all morning. She's not the one for you," he says where my mother can't hear.
My face heats up "Father... Maybe she is," I whisper, trying to reason with him. Both of us look up quickly as she rises from her seat and does a curtsy.
I discretely tug my ear and she does the same before leaving quickly.
I smile a bit but it fades when I see my fathers face. His eyes are hard and he looks shocked and angry at the same time.
The rest of our meal passes in silence and as I stand to go my father grabs my arm.
"It would be wise for you to rethink your choices, Maxon," he whispers coldly in my ear. "You don't want anyone getting... Hurt."
And with that he releases my arm and I head out with my heart in my throat and my hairs on end.
