To SCTIR Readers: Y'ALL. The webtoon is at the point where I stopped reading the novel—stopped at roughly chapter 170ish cuz there were no further translations yet in 2021 (SFS translation is currently at +330 chapters. Feel free to support 'em!) That means.. yeah, prolly more manhwa now than novel, sorry not sorry! Anyways, the novel's main story is over.. ugh. orz

THIS CHAPTER HAD TO BE CUT. ITS 5K INSTEAD OF 6K WORDS.

68.

This is a story about love.

Not necessarily about romantic, intimate love, but love nonetheless; a kind of eternal, unbending love that is true and real for the one who is a brother, a caretaker and a parent the moment he decided to choose the younger brother rather than the parents.

Eventually, love also burns.

'I'd die for you.'

A vow to save, to protect, to die.

Whereas, one says that love is about choosing someone and sticking by their side, to cherish, to preserve, one can also ask; how can it be amazing when someone dies for you? A blessed thing, one said. Someone who forfeits their life just to extend yours.

How cruel.

If love is like that, meant to hurt and mutilate, for it only saves the bare minimum of the person, not the heart, then is it truly love? Could one call this saving?

Leaving one behind and dying—is this truly an act of love?

The act of dying after him—pointless. Why did he sacrifice himself, only for him to die minutes later? And saying so arrogantly 'I'd die for you' when there was no threat of dying anywhere to see.

The justification for dying for someone; it was a mystery. 'I couldn't live without you,' but not being alive to live with one makes the act pointless anyway.

Pointless.. and not logical at all.

Then, since when was love logical anyway?

A bouquet of hyacinths was pressed against his face.

"What's this," Han Yoojin spoke into the flowers, spraying petals everywhere. The words came out as a barely legible "mmmph ngh," which means not understandable at all.

"I'm showing my devotion," Sung Hyunjae replied cloyingly, somehow understanding what only the hyacinths heard, "and of course, to meet Chief-ssi after a long time."

As if that guy had not been following him into every dungeon for the past week! Only Bak Yerim's distraction gave him enough time to clear one measly F-Class dungeon as soon as possible! And then he had the audacity to show up as if nothing happened?!

"I don't like sweets," Han Yoojin stated, deadpan.

"Now that can't be true," Sung Hyunjae denied cheerfully.

"It is," Han Yoojin gritted out, aware of their audience. "I'm aware of my likes and dislikes."

Suk Hayan, who was actually the person who he wanted to greet first before a certain someone smashed a bouquet of flowers in his face, finally spoke up, "Do Seseong Guild Leader-nim and Mirific Monstrosities Vice Guild Leader-nim know each other?"

"Not at all," he said primly at the same time Sung Hyunjae explained, "We just met."

It was a lie, of course. Their twin stares must have been enough to cover the researcher, though, because Suk Hayan did not dare comment on the vague familiarity that existed between them. "I see, I must've jumped to conclusions."
