Chapter 1: The Encounter

"So the square root of the equation (x² + 2xy + y²) is?"

"Rose, don't you think we had enough algebraic equation studies for today?" Michael groaned at his tutor.

"Well, you've been working hard these past few days. I guess we can call it a day." She smiled warmly. Michael smiled back, closed his books, and went out of the trailer car to play with his brothers.

Rose Sommerset. Teacher at home; mother on tour. That's her job. Teaching and taking care of the members of the famous boy band, Jackson 5.

Her life must be luxurious, they say.

She's so lucky to be with the Jackson 5, they say.

No other teacher is more fortunate than her, they say.

Well, "they" are wrong. Sure, working for the Jacksons is fun. Sure, they're her children on tour. Sure, she has a very high salary rate.

But nothing compares to the joy she receives when she's with her daughter, Autumn Sommerset.

"Wish they'd take a vacation," She mumbled to herself.

"What?" A deep and low voice said. She turned around to see Joseph, the father of the Jacksons.

"Nothing. Nothing," She responded quickly.

"I heard you say something. What is it? Is it about my sons' grades or anything?"

"No. Your sons are doing really well."

"Then it can't be that bad." He assured her. She sighed, but still refused to tell him the reason why. "Rose, I don't bite." She sighed again and finally gave in.

"I'm just missing my daughter, that's it," she gave him a genuine smile.

"Well, I do think I've been working the boys too hard. We can have a vacation for a few days."

"No, Mr. Jackson. That's not necessa--"

"Rose, I may be strict. But I'm not heartless."

"New York!" Michael shouted as he saw the city view through the window.
