A CERTAIN PAIR WALKED together after their mall hangout, the sun beginning to set, casting long shadows on the sidewalk.

the atmosphere between them was mostly silent, with only the occasional sound of traffic breaking the quiet.

as they passed a row of trees, Nagi suddenly spoke up. "you know, she's not that bad." he blurted out, his tone casual.

Reo snapped his head towards Nagi, his expression a mix of annoyance and confusion. "aren't you supposed to be ignoring me?" he shot back, irritated by the interruption to his thoughts.

unfazed by Reo's outburst, Nagi continued speaking as if he hadn't heard the comment. "why do you hate her so much, anyway?" he asked, his gaze fixed ahead.

Reo clenched his fists, his jaw tightening. "it's none of your business." he muttered, looking away.

the white-headed boy shrugged, not willing to let the topic drop so easily. "you seem to have some serious beef with her, but i don't get it. she's annoying, sure, but she's not that bad."

the rich kid stopped walking, turning to face Nagi with a glare. "you don't understand, Sei. she's... she's always acting like she's better than everyone else. her ego is unbearable. she thinks she knows everything, always butting into things she doesn't understand."

the gray-eyed boy raised an eyebrow, leaning against a nearby lamppost. "so, it's her confidence that bothers you? or maybe you're just mad because she sees through you."

Reo's eyes widened, caught off guard by Nagi's blunt observation. "what are you talking about?" he snapped defensively.

Nagi sighed, scratching the back of his head. "Reo, anyone with half a brain can see that you're not just mad at her for her attitude. there's more to it. maybe she reminds you of something you don't like about yourself."

Reo's anger faltered, replaced by a flicker of doubt. he looked down, his voice quieter. "she's just... different. she gets under my skin."

Nagi nodded thoughtfully. "maybe because she's not afraid to call you out. maybe because, deep down, you know she's right about some things."
