After the game, the coach had contacted Shoyo's mom to pick him up from the gymnasium and take him to the hospital for further evaluation. He felt responsible for the loss he caused his team. His coach told him not to worry about the award ceremony. He knew on the way to the hospital his mom was asking him questions but he never responded. He just stared out the window watching the scenery go by.
After he was evaluated he was instructed to take it easy over the next week, which meant he wasn't allowed to participate in volleyball practice. Shoyo was glad actually, he didn't know how to face Kageyama and the rest of the team.
So he avoided them. Even after he was cleared to play again he didn't return to practice. He avoided his best friend and his teammates. But that didn't mean he quit volleyball. He practiced until his arms felt numb, until he couldn't jump anymore. He needed to get better or he wouldn't be able to change anything. There was no way he was going to lose again.
After several months had passed it was now April, which meant it was Shoyo's first day at Kurasuno. He was ecstatic that he would be able to meet his old teammates, he missed not being able to talk to them. He had stayed in touch with a lot of them before he was sent into the past. But since coming back the only people he has been able to talk to is Oikawa and Kageyama.
Oh right. . . Kageyama. Shoyo deflated when he remembered. To be honest Shoyo was worried that Kageyama would blame him for the teams loss. Which has prevented him from really speaking to the boy. Shoyo doesn't even know if Kageyama chose Kurasuno again.
'What if he got accepted into Shirtorizawa unlike the last time, or even chose to go to Aoba Josei. I'm Doomed' Shoyo thought to himself.
Shoyo shook his head to make the thought leave and tried to focus on the fact he gets to see the rest of the team afterschool.
After a long and restless first day of school, once the bell rang Shoyo immediately grabbed his bag and ran out of the classroom heading straight for the gym.
During lunch that day Shoyo had given his club application form to Kiyoko and told her that he would be stopping by today for practice. He ran off before she could tell him the first years start next week.
Shoyo arrived at the volleyball gym and opened the sliding doors to reveal none other than Kageyama mid jump serve.
"HUH? KAGEYAMA?? WHY ARE YOU HERE?" Shoyo yells startling the setter causing him to stop mid serve with the ball landing on his head.
"I'm practicing volleyball what do you think?" Kageyama says as he points out the obvious.
"No, I mean what are you doing at Kurasuno, I thought you would've gone to Shiritorzawa!"
Kageyama looked at Shoyo like he was stupid.
"Hinata, why would I go to Shiritorizawa when you are here?" Kageyama states as if it is a well known fact.
Shoyo short circuits.
"Wait so you aren't mad at me?" Shoyo asks looking at the wooden floors.
"Why would I be mad at you Hinata? I mean yeah I was for a while because you completely cut me off and stopped going to practice. But when I finally decided to talk to you about it I saw you were practicing. To be completely honest I thought losing the finals made you quit volleyball but I was wrong. So I decided to give you space instead and figured when we both started at Kurasuno you'd be ready to talk." Kageyama answered.
Shoyo looked up surprised with the answer Kageyama had given him. He never expected him to be so mature about the situation.
At a loss for words Shoyo stays quiet and puts on his volleyball shoes. Once he finishes that he hears the three upperclassman approach the gym and looks in their direction. This makes Kageyama also look to see what had distracted his friend.
