It's lunchtime, and we're doing the iconic walking moment thing. I can hear Jessica talking about us, telling Bella all about our group. As we sit down, Edward makes his constipated face—the one he makes when he can't read Bella's mind. Of course, Edward's head snaps towards me.

"Why can't I read her mind?" he whispers sharply at me, knowing full well that with my vampire hearing, I can catch every word. Seriously, bitch please. I know I've been blocking everyone around Edwardo, but that's because I care about their privacy and want to protect them. It makes Edward upset, but I'm not stupid; I don't block him from reading the minds of people outside our family because I know it's useful for protecting them.

Before I can make a snarky remark, Rose answers for me.

"Edward, Kat has better things to do than block you from plain Jane's mind. And before you start with 'she's doing it just to make you upset,' consider the fact that Kat couldn't possibly not know that you'd want to read the human's mind right now. If she truly wanted to mess with you, she'd block you from reading everyone," she whispers under her breath so the humans can't hear.

Edward's jaw tightens, and I can see him processing Rose's words. It's true—I could block him from reading everyone's mind if I wanted to, but I don't. I know how crucial his ability can be for our safety. He seems to reluctantly accept Rose's explanation, though he's still clearly frustrated.

She wasn't completely wrong. I didn't block him, but I did know he was going to try to get into her head. And yes, I do love to irritate Edweirdo. What baffled me was how he got away with glaring at her during lunch, just because he was salty he couldn't read her mind. He only found out she was his blood singer at the end of the day in biology.

As I watched Edward stew in his frustration, I couldn't help but smirk. It was amusing to see him so thrown off by a human. Typically, he was always so composed and in control. But Bella, with her unreadable mind, had thrown a wrench into his perfect facade. It was a rare sight to see him so unnerved, and I relished in the moment, knowing it wouldn't last forever.

Rose was still annoyed at Bella for being nosy and not leaving the family alone. She might have even tried to book a plane to Arizona a few months ago when I told her how the future was going to unfold. Her plan was to kill Bella before all the drama started, and honestly, I was all for it. But then Hades sent me a mental message that I was not to kill the human.

That stopped Rose, but I was still for killing Bella until Persephone also sent me a message saying I needed her alive for an event to happen. She didn't elaborate, but I knew I should listen. Okay, so maybe I'm a mommy's girl, which made Hades pout, but I have no defense; if she tells me to do something, I'm more inclined to listen.

Anyway, Rose was still not exactly happy with Bella. She decided she would just treat the human like gum under her boot. She made it clear she didn't want to get dragged into the Bella drama, even if it was to save the Cullens. She might have still been salty about the fact that everyone just ignored what she had to say unless she could help them.

As for me, I was determined to keep Rose out of the fray. She deserved better than to be pulled into the chaos surrounding Bella. And although I enjoyed ruffling Edward's feathers, I had to admit that the unfolding situation was more complex than mere entertainment. With Persephone's cryptic message in mind, I knew Bella's presence was necessary, even if it meant enduring some uncomfortable moments.

Rose was also becoming more tense by the second, growing frustrated with the humans around us. Luckily, we had music class after this, and I had a few songs from the future that always helped calm Rose down.

As the bell rang, we quickly made our way to class. The thought of singing those future songs was a welcome distraction for both of us. Music had a way of soothing Rose’s frayed nerves, and it gave me a chance to share something positive amidst all the tension.
