Mom stayed for a few days to get to know Rosalie better and to make sure I was calm and settled, but eventually, she had to return home, saying that she had some work that urgently needed her attention.
Thankfully, and I can't exactly believe I'm saying this, but Edward is back. I mean, I truly thought he was bad, but no-Bella is somehow worse.
Everything else went according to the plot, and now we are getting ready for dinner at the Cullens' house with Bella. She now knows the Cullens' secret, and Edweirdo let it slip that Rose and I are neither human nor vampire. Thanks to my mind block, he couldn't say anything more. This means Bella is trying to get close to me to find out what we are.
I just ignored her and went to Rose.
The only reason we're going to the dinner is because my Valkyrie blood will take Jasper's bloodlust away so he won't be in pain while they drag the human blood bag around in front of him. I know Alice could see that Jasper would not be fine with not attacking Bella, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't hurt him.
Dinner unfolded with an air of tension, a departure from the glamorous scenes portrayed in movies. Bella, though she partook in the meal Esme had meticulously prepared, couldn't shake off her curiosity. As she savored each bite, she seized the opportunity to broach a topic she had been pondering. The table was set with an array of dishes, their aromas mingling enticingly in the air, but the atmosphere was heavy with unspoken questions.
"So, what's the deal with you and Rose? What are you two? " Bella's inquiry pierced the silence, interrupting the quiet clinking of cutlery against plates. Edward and Rosalie exchanged a glance, their expressions momentarily betraying a mixture of surprise and apprehension.
Rosalie's reaction was immediate; she drove her fork into the table with a force that startled Bella, her frustration evident in the clenched jaw and the narrowed eyes. "I fail to see how that's any of your concern," she retorted, her voice laced with a sharpness that hinted at underlying tensions. The tension in the room intensified, each word hanging heavy in the air, as the gravity of the unspoken dynamics between us three became palpable.
"Well, I want to get to know Edward's family now that we're dating, but because of the mental block he can't tell me," Bella tried to cover herself, her words tinged with a hint of frustration and curiosity. As she glanced around the room, her eyes fell upon Rosalie, Edward's adopted sister, and Katarina, Rosalie's girlfriend.
"Well, Bella, this is Rosalie," Katarina introduced, her tone laced with sarcasm, as if amused by the situation. "And I'm Katarina, Rosalie's girlfriend. Now you know us," she added, her words dripping with irony.
Emmett erupted into laughter at Katarina's remark, his booming chuckles filling the room. Even Melody, who typically reined in Emmett's exuberance, couldn't suppress her own amusement this time, allowing his laughter to continue unrestrained.
"But that doesn't explain what you all are; all I know is you aren't human," Bella demanded, her tone determined, though tinged with a hint of fear. Her persistence irked me, and in a moment of frustration, I revealed my true form, my original face flashing before her eyes.
"Well, Isabella," I responded coolly, feeling the weight of annoyance settling in. "As Rosalie said, that is none of your business. And if you continue to pry where you don't belong, I will personally put an end to it," I growled out, my voice low and threatening. Edward, sensing the tension, began to emit a low growl of his own.
"Shut it, Edward. Everyone knows you can't stop me if I decide to act," I retorted, my patience wearing thin. "The human is your problem, and you chose to handle it this way. But if she becomes mine or Rose's problem, I will eliminate anything that puts Rose in danger, including you."
