Never The One (Discontinued)

The Act

***Caroline's P.o.V***

Over the swarm of people crowded around me to congratulate me on my performance I see Stefan standing alone at the back smiling at me.

I smile back and say my thank-yous to the people around.

I make my way towards Stefan. It is going to be awkward I feel but I make myself continue walking with serenity. I just received praise for my acting skills, I can handle this.

"Hey" Stefan says in his low husky voice.
"Hey" I reply, just like old days.

"You gave a really good performance" He continues.
"Thank You Stefan"

There is silence after that. We look at each other, at loss of words.

Stefan breaks the silence, "I saw a new restaurant near your college on my way here, wanna go there and grab a bite?"
"Sure" I say with a smile, "but I need to go change first... I can't barge into places dressed as Lady Macbeth!"
He chuckles, "Yeah, right."

We walk towards my dorm building. I come to a halt at the building entrance.
"Stefan, you can wait here. I'll be back in five minutes" I say.
He looks at me for a second and nods.
I rush up to my room at vamp speed and take out my mobile phone to make a call to Damon. 

He picks up at the very first ring.

"Damon-"
"Is Stefan with you Caroline?"
"Yes, he is. Damon please tell me what is it that you are planning!"
"Later Caroline"

Damon drops the call.

I am having a very bad feeling about this. Alaric and Damon always include Stefan in their plans, what is it now that they have to hide from him. What will happen when he finds out? What if their plan doesn't work and they come in danger!

I think of calling Alaric but my phone starts ringing and I pick up.

"Is everything alright Caroline? You have been up there since last twenty minutes. I just called in to check."

Damn! I have been sitting on my bed worrying about all this, I haven't even changed yet.

"I'm sorry Stefan, I'll be down in a minute. I was tired so lied down for a bit and then lost track of time..."

"You're exhausted Caroline, you don't need to come down."

I panic. What if he leaves? Damon's plan might be affected, and to tell the truth I don't want him to leave either.

"I am not exhausted Stefan, I can-"

"How about I pick something up from the Diner and we can eat in your room?"

"Yeah, that would be great"

"Good. I'll be back in some time."

He hangs up and I sigh with relief. I change into my comfortable pyjamas and loose t-shirt. I look at myself in mirror. The t-shirt has Bugs Bunny eating carrot imprinted on it. I laugh to myself, funny I picked this one on the day I am having dinner with the bunny-eater.

I lay on my bed and try pushing all thoughts of him away from my head. 

I hear a knock after a while.

"Come in" I shout from my bed, too tired to get up.
