Prince Lyxander awoke before the first light of dawn, his mind already buzzing with the day's responsibilities.
Despite the weight of his duties, he couldn't resist the urge to indulge in his daily ritual, a solitary walk outside the castle walls.
With a sense of anticipation tingling in his veins, Lyxander slipped out of his royal attire and into simple, nondescript clothing, eager for the anonymity it provided.
As he made his way to the door, his heart skipped a beat when he found Rhys standing before him.
Rhys regarded him with a neutral expression, taking in his disguised appearance.
Before Lyxander could utter a word, Rhys bowed his head respectfully and greeted him. Lyxander couldn't help but feel a twinge of surprise at Rhys's unexpected presence.
"Good morning, Your Highness," Rhys greeted with a respectful nod.
"Rhys, what are you doing here?" Lyxander asked, surprised by the unexpected encounter.
"King Eirian assigned me to be your personal guard," Rhys replied evenly, his gaze unwavering.
Lyxander's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "My personal guard? But why?"
Rhys's expression remained impassive as he explained,
"It is the king's decree. Your safety is of utmost importance."
Lyxander hesitated for a moment, debating whether to reveal his true intentions.
But something in Rhys's demeanor, perhaps the way he carried himself with an air of authority, compelled Lyxander to trust him.
Lyxander nodded, understanding the necessity but still feeling a pang of disappointment.
He had hoped to embark on his morning stroll alone, free from the weight of his princely duties.
"I... I like to take a walk outside the castle every morning," Lyxander admitted sheepishly.
"It's my little escape from the responsibilities of being a prince."
Rhys's features remained neutral, a flicker of understanding crossing his face.
"I see," he murmured.
Rhys's expression changes slightly, but he quickly masked it with a look of concern.
"It's not safe for you to wander alone, Your Highness. Especially outside the castle grounds."
Lyxander sighed, his shoulders slumping in resignation.
"I know, but it's the only time I can truly be myself."
Rhys nodded, feigning understanding.
"I see. In that case, I'll accompany you. It's my duty to ensure your safety."
