Levi Ackerman POV:"I told you before, they came in and took her." I repeat, the tick in my eyebrow growing in an unexceptional rate.
"I'm just not understanding how two of the most skilled agents in America were able to be ambushed." His words only further my irritation.
I pause my current investigations, lifting my gaze to glare at his stone of a face. If we weren't so acquainted I would have chucked a blade into his ribs long ago.
"Being the best doesn't mean you won't fall." I admit, intaking a deep breath to recoil my emotions back to a mundane level.
"So what happened man, what'd they do to stop you?" Eren sits across from me, those low-lidded eyes pinning me with every anticipating question he has.
"Poison." I admit, the memory of that night unfolds in my mind, like a movie I can re-live the entire moment. I don't understand how neither of us thought to double check the gaping holes in our meet up.
I knew how dangerous it was for her to meet with me and yet...I clench my fists, growing frustrated all over again. It's my duty to protect her, to make sure that things like this never happen.
I drag a hand through my hair, tilting my head back to rest against the headrest of my chair.
Three days, three long miserable days of trying to find her and I continue to meet dead ends.
I stare at the ceiling, her face dancing behind my eyes. For the last sixty two hours I've wondered how I let her slip right through my fingers.
My chest constricts, that flickering flame I've been trying to keep at bay starts to blink back to life.I hear Eren exhale a heavy sigh,
"You didn't check for poison before you ate or drank anything?" He asks, the flame inside grows, his idiotic questions only fuels my anger.
"If we did, this wouldn't have happened." I bring my head back down, My eye twitches, an insufferably strong emotion becoming no longer containable.
"Bro, of all the times to not check." Eren breathes, reaching over to grab a folder from the large stack I have piled beside me.
"Don't call me that." I drop my gaze back down to the manilla folder, opening it to read its contents.
As angry as I am, the emotion won't do anything to get her back, action will.
Determination spreads across my chest like branded amour.
Believe me when I say this...when I find out who has her, death will be what they beg for.My fingers grip the corner of the paper, reading the profile of Clara Bennet and her league in Centenary.
A short blonde woman, with the job title of an agent handler,
I drag my tongue over my bottom lip, my eyebrows furrowed...so she takes care of management with the agents.I keep that fact in mind, moving to a new folder when I've scoped the in's and out's of who she is.
It doesn't take long for the golden glazed day to turn into a silver speckled night. We've sat here for what feels like days,
Eren yawns, throwing another folder in the 'no' pile."I say we call it a night," He stretches, the tension in my shoulders urge me to agree, but the need to find her keeps me from doing so.
"Hope the door hits you on the way out." I joke, placing another folder in the 'yes' pile. Complete silence follows, did he not understand? I glance up wondering why he didn't find any humour in my jest.
He blinks, not a single sign of him understanding the joke shows on his face.
"Oh- you were joking?" His eyebrows rise in shock,
"You know, For someone to get the joke you have to not sound- or look so serious " He shakes his head, ashamed of my lack of humor.
