Sunday morning rolls around and Paige is packing her things. She's got that trip with Azzi and a visit back to her hometown. I'm helping her pack her things and I see a UCONN sweater laying on my dresser. I go to fold it and she stops me.
"Nah leave it here. So you won't miss me too much." She's smirking and I am still slightly annoyed with our last little fight we had. I shake my head and just laugh. She places her hands on my waist.
"You and me, we're cool right?"
Eh. I don't know if those are the right words I'd use. "Yeah we're good." I guess she could sense something was off. There really isn't a 'me and her' because to my knowledge, it's casual. So not me but I'm not going to beg her to want to be with me.
Ashton comes in roller skating, "Hey breakfast is ready."
"What the hell are you doing?" I looked at my strange, strange older brother.
"I found all of our old roller skates. Yours are outside! We can go roller skating. Dad found his too!" He skates circles around us. Oh how great is it to be home.
"Don't break an ankle. Bend your knees!" Paige said as he rolled out.
I can't help but laugh. My family has got to be the dorkiest there is.
After we eat breakfast, I drove us both to the airport.
"I'll see you back here in two weeks." I smiled softly.
We hug goodbye and that's it. There's not much else to say in goodbyes someone you're not even in a committed relationship with. Kissing feels couple-ish and goodbye speeches seem like committed relationship territory. So, we settle for hugging and the comfortable silence. She walks through the doors and I get in my car. I don't look at her because again, that would seem girlfriend-ey.
I drive back to the Summer house. It's officially Summer. The back to Summer party happened and now we're all sleeping in the beach house. I take it all in and I catch Celia putting on skates.
"You're seriously gonna go roller skating?" I got out of the car.
"You're not? It's Summer! We're like little kids again." Celia has elbow and knee pads on, along with her helmet. Granted, I'm not sure any of our things fit.
"Go get your skates on B! We're going skating around town!" Ashton comes again and circles me in his skates.
I am walking past mom wearing a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads. I'm in a pair of shorts and a tank top so I feel comfortable enough.
"Please be careful honey." Mom had a genuine concern in her voice.
"Yes of course." I smiled lacing up my skates.
We all skated our way down to the pier. Ashton insisted on a race but I refused because I'd like to keep my face unscratched.
I hear my dad scream, "Martin family!!"
Great. We skate toward them and Kate is grinning at me like she's got a punchline.
"Wow. I haven't seen these skates in forever." She was looking down.
"I know right. I think I still got it." I flip my hair.
"No Paige?" Kate looked at the Flores family.
"Nada. She went back this morning. She'll be back in 2 weeks." I shake my head while explaining and Kate nods.
Celia and Kennedy are off elsewhere. Ashton and my dad are racing to God knows where. Kate walks while I skate beside her.
