Sasuke had always prided himself on his ability to maintain control. Whether it was his relatives and parents, in the classroom, or in the chaos of daily life, he kept his emotions tightly reined in. But recently, something had shifted... and it was getting harder to ignore as the time ticked by.
Naruto...
His mind kept circling back to his idiot of a roommate, to the determination in his ocean eyes, the way his laughter filled the room, and the warmth of his presence that seemed to seep into Sasuke's bones. It was annoying. It was confusing. And, most of all, it was distracting as hell..
It's maybe been a week since the encounter in the library the tension had eased ever so slightly, things almost felt awkward yet the two acted as if nothing was wrong..
Sasuke sat at his desk, pretending to slave away at his textbooks, but his thoughts kept drifting back to a certain dumb blonde. He glanced over at Naruto, who was sprawled on his bed, scribbling furiously in a notebook. The blond's brow was furrowed in concentration, his tongue poking out slightly in a way that Sasuke found explicitly endearing. He shook his head, trying to dispel the thought.
"Want help with that?" Sasuke asked, more to dispel his thoughts than anything else.
Naruto looked up, a grin spreading across his face. "Nah, I've got it. But thanks, Sasuke! It's nice to know you care bout me!~"
Sasuke rolled his eyes, a small smile tugging at his lips despite himself. "Don't flatter your pathetic ass, dobe. I just don't want you dragging our grades down."
Naruto laughed, the sound sending a strange unfamiliar flutter throughout Sasukes chest. "Yeah, yeah, keep telling yourself that, teme!~"
The banter was familiar, comforting in a way, but there was an undercurrent now, something that hadn't been there before. Sasuke could feel it in the way Naruto's eyes lingered on him a little longer than necessary, in the subtle shifts in their conversations, in the tension that hung in the air whenever they were alone together, it was enticing in the slightest.

Later that evening, they found themselves in the common room, both ostensibly working on assignments but neither truly focused. The room was quiet, the soft whisps of the air conditioning the only sound that filled the silent spac. Sasuke glanced over at Naruto, who was tapping his pen against his notebook, a faraway look in his eyes.
"What's got you so distracted?" Sasuke asked, trying to sound casual over the fluttering feeling in his chest that he assumed was allergies or something along the lines..
Naruto blinked, snapping out of his fantasy. "Oh! nothing. Just thinking, heh-"
Sasuke raised an eyebrow a smirk daring to display on his expression. "You? Thinking? That's a first."
