"Mhm...."

Muzan's vision was blurry as he slowly opened his eyes. Once he made clear of his surrounding, he sat up and sighed.

How long has it been since he's been stuck in his bed? The only time he gets out is when he wants to go to the bathroom.

He looked at the box beside him, slowly opening it, it was an omamori, a japanese amulet with a note

Happy 17th birthday, dear cousin! This amulet is from the capital's shrine, it will protect you from harm's way. I'm sorry for not attending your birthday, i've been busy these days. I'll visit you next week with herbal medicine from the emperor's doctor! Let's have tea together once in a while.

The handwriting was from his cousin from the Ubayashiki family, he closed the box shut while groaning. He just wants to wake up atleast once without being reminded of his illness and fate.

Looking out his window, he realize the sun just risen and thinks this is the chance to eat breakfast. He refuses to eat together with his parents, ever since he became conscious of his frail body, he wants nothing more than to be left alone 24/7.

Slowly standing up, he leaned on to the wall for support and walked towards the door. Then to the hallway, while he was walking he heard voices of his parents and an unknown woman chatting.

"What's a guest doing here so early..." He mumbled to himself, he couldn't help but take a peek on the small crack of the shoji door and eavesdrop on their conversation.

He couldn't see the guest properly, but from her clothing, she was a shrine maiden. Guessing by the design of the robes, she was the famed Divine Priestess of the capital's shrine.

This woman was known for predicting and telling fortunes accurately, that even the emperor's grandfather relied on her for imperial decisions. There's been no failure in her work as fortune teller, combined with her witty and understanding personality, this earned her a great reputation and rise among the supreme court.

"Your son, Muzan Kibutsuji. Has a complicated fortune my lord and lady..."

No need to remind me, Muzan insulted her in his mind. However what she said next stunned him.

"He is not just destined to die at the age of twenty. This has never happened in centuries! He is also destined to find his beloved five hundred years later!"

Muzan was so shocked he felt like his heart stopped beating again.

This was truly a complicated fate! He was destined to die at twenty, but he has a spouse centuries later!?

"Are the gods playing a trick on me? What is the meaning of this..." Muzan gripped the wall tighter as he continued to listen, as expected his parents are shocked.

"Lord and Lady Kibutsuji, my third eye never lies, he is destined to marry centuries later!"

"Could it be that the gods have finally given him a chance in life!?" His mother cried in joy but his father deadpanned "But wife, what if he will get married in his second life? He will probably reincarnate and in his life five centuries later, that's when he will get married."

"My third eye says that he won't reincarnate, there's another reason. This has never happened before! This a phenomenon!" The Priestess was even shocked herself.

"The red string of fate never lies!" She exclaimed

Shocked to the core, Muzan fell to the ground with a thud and blacked out.
