Chapter 5

April 8th| The same day

After much worrying about Midoriya's and Bakugo's fight, it was my turn to fight.

Hagakure and I were the villains, going up against Shoji Mezo and Todoroki Shoto. We got a five-minute head start to move the bomb to the 4th floor.

This whole villain thing... It doesn't feel right. Impersonating the thing I'm told to get rid of feels wrong. How can I fight my classmates too? I suppose it's fine though... All Might said to do it, and he knows best. Besides, I can't let down Hagakure.

As soon as the alarm for the beginning of the fight went off, I was on guard.

I felt the temperature of the whole building decrease – which was perfect since heat was a drawback of my quirk. However, I didn't notice the ice creeping into the room, freezing our feet to the floor.

"Ah, Fuck." I breathed out. I rushed to form a snake life from my left arm to guard the door while I tried to get out of the ice. Looking around for a solution, my breaths sped up. I sent my snake after Todoroki, since I couldn't reach him myself. I summoned a small bird from my chest tattoo, since it would take less focus. I sent it over to Hagakure, to chip away at the ice around her feet. If she could break free, she could sneak up to Todoroki — a much less obvious approach.

"AH! My feet... it's so- cold-" Hagakure screamed out.

I looked away from Todoroki and over to Hagakure.

Shit, she's barefoot to be totally disguised. This must be horrible for her, with her bare feet frozen... Her skin will get ripped up.

"Don't worry! I've got this..."

I focused my energy and attention towards creating a couple more birds and helping Hagakure. As I was talking to her, my snake had stopped moving, giving Todoroki the slip. Just as Hagakure was freed, I heard a loud alarm, and All Might speak over the intercom.

"The Hero team wins! Congratulations!"

Time seemed to freeze as I turned around to the bomb, and sure enough, there Todoroki was. He had slipped past me when I was distracted by Hagakure.

What the hell? How could I be so stupid?

I stared at the ground as Todoroki defrosted the building.

I'm so stupid...

How could I have let that happen?

I...

Failed.

The thing I live to do...

I failed at it.

I didn't complete my task. I failed.

I am... a failure.

What are Mother and Dad going to think? Oh, they're totally going to hate me now.

SHIT.

If I wasn't so useless.

Maybe if I was faster?

If I was stronger... If I worked harder, I would've won.

I was wrapped up in my head, but I decided to go back to the monitoring room. I walked there alone; I didn't deserve any company.

Once I reached the monitoring room, I was incessantly scratching at my already-bleeding tattoos, my breathing uneven and laboured.

All Might called me over to the front of the class so we could do an evaluation of the battle. I shook my head. Thankfully, he caught the message, and continued the analysis without me. I leaned on the wall in the furthest corner from the door and slid down onto the ground. My blood stained the wall as I slid down it, seating myself on the floor.
