Ayan's POV

Thanks to Al, I managed to do all of my duties at work but I also helped him at home though I rarely slept for a longer time. Luckily, the weekend came soon enough and I finally had something to look forward to.

"What is that blindfold for, Al? Do you want to drag me to some dark room and-." He shut my mouth.

"Of course not, I want you to choose your dog without looking at the appearance. There are many dogs who need you more than a well treated young puppy. I thought... that we could adopt a dog which doesn't have many chances to get new owners rather than a healthy puppy which will find a young kid." I nodded. In the end, I didn't really care about the age of the dog.

He walked me in and let me touch the cages where I could feel the dogs wet sniffles. They were all loud but I preferred a quieter dog. Then I walked to the cage where the dog wasn't barking, just making other sounds and tried to lick my palm.

"This one!" I said and Al took my blindfold off. I couldn't recognize the breed as it was a hybrid for sure but what I noticed was that it had just three legs and the dog was already big.

Then some lady approached us.

"This is Buddy but you can call him different if you choose him. He's a hybrid of Basenji and another hybrid breed. We took care of him after the surgery which he had to undertake because of his awful owner who needed to get rid of him and hit him with his car on purpose. His neighbor saw it and brought Buddy to the vet to save him. Unfortunately, he lost trust in people after the trauma but it looks like he likes you.
The decision is yours, young man, I'd just like to say that Buddy has been always overlooked here among the dogs with all four legs." This dog is as fucked up us as two. A perfect match.

"Is he used to the nickname?"

"He is but he would eventually adjust to a new name as well." I smirked. The left front leg was missing but he was still trying to give me his other paw, to not let me go for other dogs. He looked so sad... he actually reminded me of myself.

"Let's keep it Buddy then, it suits him. Can I ask what treatment he needs?" She widely smiled.

"So you are really choosing him... come to my office. I'll give you all the documents from the vet to inform you about his health." We nodded and followed her but Buddy already sulked and the other dogs as well.

In the office, we paid a bill for him. It was a small cost compared to the medical checks he had to undergo. They can't give them for free, good people are willing to pay and they had ve to make sure the new owners are serious about owning a dog.

After we read all the documents about him and still were sure we wanted him, she wanted us to sign the adoption contract. We promised by the sign that we would take the best care of him and would regularly send photos to the shelter so they would know the dog is in good hands.

"Let's go for your new friend then." I smiled and Buddy was eagerly waiting for us. His eyes completely sparkled when his cage was unlocked. The lady put a collar and leash on him and slowly led him to Al's car. She always made a few steps and waited for him so he would always catch up to her.

"Please visit the vet as soon as possible. You'll get more information about his rehabilitation which he couldn't get here as we are taking care of too many dogs at the same time." We nodded.

"Al, can I sit with him in the backseats?"

"Of course, keep him company while this sad boyfriend will be your taxi driver."

"Al!" I bumped into him with my elbow and he chuckled.

In the car, when Buddy already explored the backseats and wanted to sleep on my lap, I looked at Al.
