TWO YEARS LATER
Hades.
The God of death.
Two years.
Twenty-four months.
Seven hundred and thirty days of becoming my bed, my body sinking into the mattress as I replay one of the worst days in my life. I will be honest with myself, my worst days are every day working in this field. Being a paediatrician was one of the hardest jobs I have ever done. And by jobs- I'm talking about working in a hotel, waitress, bar. It was hard because of the experiences i went through, some days were filled with sudden deaths, other days it was smiles, lollipops and roller skates.
I forced myself to take some days off work, days turned into two years.
I shift to my right side of the bed, and my eyes lock with Nara as she kneels down and rests her arms onto the mattress. "Come on Kandy..." she whispers, her bright blue eyes filled with sadness. Sadness because her best friend is gone. I haven't been myself since that day, and it isn't like anyone can blame me.
"Leave me alone Nara." I speak.
"No, I won't, you can't keep rotting in bed. You have to go out there."
"Yes I can."
I shift to my left side to get away from her.
My eyes locks with the small round window in my bedroom, the sun shining right through-blinding me. All until that sun was interrupted with Nara's big head. "Nara stop!" I shift to my other side again, and hear her footsteps trod around my bed frame. I sigh, knowing I wouldn't be able to get away from her.
"No, Kandy. You are one of the best paediatricians in the country, everyone loves you, everyone wants you. You had a two year break after .... But you need to get out there again, you know St Queen Hospital for children's have been wanting you back for months." The bed dips down, and she slowly brushes the back of my hair as she settles in front of me. Her head resting on my white silk pillow.
She sighs, lifting herself up from the bed as she crosses her leg.
Her dark brown skin glowing under the sunlight, "come on, I am not letting you waste another month of your life."
"Nara, please, just leave me alone."
"No! No! I am not leaving, you know what, you're going to get up right now and go shower, and when you come out there will be a red dress on your bed with a nice pair of red matching heels. And then I'm going to drop you off to the restaurant where I booked you a blind date."
Two words.
Two words that got me shooting into a sitting position, I glare at her with wide eyes. "What?"
She shrugs her shoulders, sliding out of the bed as she walks over to my light blue draws, pulling each one open until she finds the towels. "You heard me."
