I straighten my hair and style meticulously. Today is my first day, and I'm trying to make a good impression. The bright red piece of hair blends seamlessly with the rest of my black hair, and my ears are decorated with small gold hoops.

I apply pink shimmery eyeshadow on my lids and a clear gloss to my lips. My outfit consists of black denim jeans and a black graphic tee shirt with pink rhinestones that form a heart on the center.

I grab my backpack before making my way downstairs.

My mother's in the kitchen with her back turned towards me. While my dad sits at the dining room table reading the newspaper.

"You look so cute," my mom comments as she walks towards the table, sitting the stack of pancakes down.

A smile of appreciation forms on my face as I thank her. I make my plate as Penny comes down in her cheer uniform. She sends me a smile and takes a seat next to me.

"Are you excited for your first day?" She asked.

"I'm a bit nervous, but I'm happy that you're with me." Penny and I are twins and have always been close, but when she got her powers, she immediately got accepted into Sky High, so we haven't able to hang out much. I just hope that changes.

We say our goodbyes because she has to leave early to greet the new students. She's the cheer captain and makes up the whole cheer team with her self duplication.

A phone rings as I'm finishing my food. My dad answers it with a sense of urgency.

"Turn on the TV." he mouths to my mother, and she grabs the remote, switching it to the news station.

I watch with interest as Mr. and Mrs. Stronghold better known as The Commander and Jetstream fly toward a giant robotic-like monster. The Commander uses his super strength to crush the robot, and the sound of paparazzi and screams of admiration can be heard as he poses with his new souvenir.

"They beat us to it, Stacy." My father rolls his eyes, irritated. "I would have taken that robot down in seconds," he muttered under his breath, but my mother caught it.

She snorts out a laugh. "Yeah... seconds. You know, fighting that thing would have taken you at least an hour and forty-five minutes."

I laugh as she high-fives me. "But look on the bright side. You can walk Paula to the bus stop." My smile immediately drops.

"Mom! No" I give her a look full of irritation as she lets out a dramatic cackle.

"You know what? That's a great idea! Let me get suited up." My dad rushes towards the basement, and I glare at my mother silently trying to convince her to stop him.

"Dad please!" I whine with a hand covering my face.

I can feel the stares of our neighbors as my dad parades beside me in all black. A black leather coat flowes down his back, and a black and silver body vest sits on top of his chest. He even put on his glasses.

"Why are we walking again? We could have teleported there." He asked as we walked down the neighborhood.

"Because the orientation starts right after we get off the bus. If you don't know where the bus stop is, just say that," I muttered sarcastically.

"Oh, don't get smart with me, miss girl. I know exactly where the bus stop is."

"Then why are you trying to lead me across the street when it's right there?" I say as I point at the now visible bus stop.

He chuckles before ruffling my hair. I put it back in place with an eye roll.

As we reach the stop, a bus immediately pulls up, catching me off guard. The door opened to reveal a chubby man with a childlike smile. His face forms into one that is shocked when he takes in my father.

"Oh my! Superhero Zion!" As he yelled, I could hear the mumbles and whispers of children coming from the bus, making me sweat.

"I'm sending my precious daughter to school, and I don't want to see a single scratch on her pinky nail when she gets home." he announces to the bus driver with a deepened voice.

"Yes sir!" The bus driver salutes him as I enter the bus. All eyes fall on me as the freshman take me in.

"She doesn't look like a freshman," a boy with white hair mutters in awe.

I roll my eyes with a grin. "Because I'm not," I reply, catching him by surprise. His face turns tomato red, causing the bus to erupt with laughter.

"Paula," Will, and Layla greet me with a wave as I pass them. My dad likes to go over to Mr. Stronghold's house on the weekends, and they invite us over for dinner sometimes. I send them a nod and a small wave as I sit next to a girl with purple and black hair.

"Is it okay if I sit here?"

"Yeah," she moves her book bag, and I sit down. "I love your hair," she says, examining me.

"Thank you! Your hair is pretty too!"

"Well, that's everyone!" The bus driver announces as he rips off his disguise and pulls a leaver that I didn't notice. The bus speeds up, causing me to grip the front seat.

Wings begin to extend out of the bus, and the bus driver quickly rolls off of a cliff. Screams fill the bus, and I'm shocked when we don't completely fall from the sky.

He hurls through thick clouds, and I eventually catch a glimpse of a giant building.

"There she is... Sky High." The driver signs in admiration.
